Great product and fantastic company
I was thrilled to receive this Cuisenaire Rods Early Math Activity Set. It is a fantastic product to use with visual and tactile learners. Before teaching addition and subtraction it is so very important to understand how the numbers relate to one another. Seeing the rods and touching them allows that to be seen. Children can see the orange rod is BIGGER than the yellow rod and the lime green rod is SMALLER than the magenta rod. This set comes with everything you need to use it upon opening the box. The mats, the dry erase marker and the rods are right there. NO PREP! Open and go! This would be a great "centers" for morning or afternoon work in the classroom. Also a great math warm up or introduction lesson as you explore ways the rods interact with each other and how they function. There are so many resources available online or in your library to learn more about using the Cuisenaire Rods. They were invented almost 80 years ago by a Belgian teacher Georges Cuisenaire. They are also referred to as number rods.Whatever it is that you call them, they are a fantastic tool to use in your preschool, homeschool, kindergarten, or church school setting. I believe understanding how the numbers relate to each other and being able to see that relationship visually benefits all learners!LOVE THEM!

Works well with Miquon Math
We ordered these to use with my kiddos Miquon math books and were pleased to find they were exactly the right sizes. My five year old has also enjoyed using the learning cards that came with the rods.

A Must-Have For All Parents of PreSchoolers to 2nd Graders!
My 4 YO grandson is learning aspects of math in his preschool, and we have found that sensory learning works great at his age. This set is a great way to start learning math. This set comes with square ‘rods’ of different colors and different lengths. For example, the smallest one, which is white, represents “1”; the next one, which is twice the size of the “1” is “2” and is red; and so on, up to “10” (orange) which is 10x the length of the “1”, or 5x the length of the “2”. Teaching math with this is as simple as this: say I want to do 2 + 3 + 5 = ?. All my grandson has to do is take a “2” rod, a “3” rod, and a “5” rod, put them all together and see which rod in the set matches, or what combination matches. Or, with a ruler her can measure all the rods and get it from that (this last method is a little more advanced, and good for teaching measurement). You can even teach some multiplication and division with these (albeit this is another advanced skill, but you can start). This set actually makes learning math fun. This set also comes with a dry erase marker and a set of 15 activity cards (30 activities), many of which are parent/teacher customizable. There are two cons with this set that you need to be aware of: the first is there are 74 of these Cuisenaire rods, but NO decent storage bag is provided, just a ziplock bag. Do yourself a favor and get something more robust to store them in. This first con leads to the second: many of the rods are small and can present a choking hazard for very young children, so it is best to keep them away from children under 3 or 4 YO. Despite these cons, I couldn’t justify taking a star away from this 5-star product.Overall I highly recommend this set. I learned to do math on my fingers and with a number line; this is way better, and the visual aspect it brings will reenforce the math learned!

Good learning assistance
This has been educational and useful. It came with a simple tools to train math using "number sense", basically showing the numbers as various sized sticks and letting the kid realize what they mean.Pros:+ Visual learning: Really shows the numbers+ Educational value: These methods are used in "montessori", and usefulCons:Requires Guidance: These are not toys, but educational tools. So be prepared to spend time with the kids.

Great math manipulatives
Great for getting an early start at home when your kid is getting ready to learn math. My wife is a teacher and says a lot of teachers use this in the classroom and recommend it at home so she told me to get it for our son.

Difficult without lines for severely autistic children
I really love the products hand2mind makes, but these rods don't work well for severely autistic children. They don't have lines for autistic children to count the squares so it doesn't make sense to them. I thought these had lines on them like the Learning Resources ones. I do think the activity cards are great. This set would be perfect if the rods had lines on them.
