Great set, lots of flexibility!
I purchased this for my son for his 8th birthday. We had a lot of fun putting this together, and it kept us all occupied for a couple of hours.I love that the pieces are separated into numbered bags that match the instruction books. With so many small pieces, it would be difficult to sift through one large bag to find the right pieces. I think it's great that the booklets are made with pictures, so even kids who cannot yet read can follow along. This set has some really cool pieces to build, and the details are amazing. There are little handheld radios for the Lego Mini figs, shovels, hooks, and chains. It offers plenty of enjoyment as a playset once it is assembled. What's even better though, is the hours of enjoyment after these things are disassembled. When I purchase these larger, more expensive lego sets, I look for sets that don't have tons of 'specialized' parts...I want parts and pieces that my son can use with his own imagination, and you should see some of the vehicles he has come up with in his own little mind! This set has provided hours upon hours of entertainment for my son, and it still hasn't worn off after several weeks!A few points to keep in mind:1. Lego is pretty much spot-on with their age recommendations. This set contains MANY very small parts. It's not a great choice for very young kids, nor kids who aren't yet very good with picking up their things.2. Don't expect a very young child to be able to put these together without help....enjoy the time you can spend assembling this WITH your child!3. It's a good idea to open the bags one at a time, as suggested by Lego, into a bin or some sort of container. If you rip into these all at once, you'll find yourself digging through a LOT of pieces to locate the right ones for the thing you're working on!

Fantastic Lego Kit
We got this as a Christmas gift for our 7-year-old son. He opened it at approximately 8am and by 10pm that evening he had the whole thing built. He was so engrossed by it he wanted to have his dinner brought out to him so he could keep building. He was able to do almost the entire set by himself with a little help from Grandpa on about 2-3 tricky parts. The kit has a building and 3 construction vehicles to build. Now that it is all together he is still playing with all the guys and has even reconfigured one of the vehicles. It was a little pricey at almost $100 but for all we got I think it was money well spent. We have found that the City sets are some of the best ones. They have more to build and less prefabricated sections as opposed to the sets based on TV shows or movies. Also my son seems to play with these sets long after the original building is done compared to the sets that have less pieces.I have to say that overall Legos have been some of the best toys we have gotten our son. He loves following the directions, doing it by himself and then showing off his efforts.

Lego City Construction Site
This item is very over-priced - such a large box, with so little in it! Several pieces, stickers missing but Lego replaced those with no trouble. Again, very over-priced.

Good toy, but too expensive
Good toy, but too expensive. Granted it is not for sale from Lego any more, but it is a lot of money for what you get.

Lots of fun, but not as challenging as I expected
This was my first big Lego kit, put together with my 10 year old daughter. The bags and manuals were well-organized according to the part of the set you are assembling. There did happen to be three parts that were missing, but I filled out a painless form on the Lego site and they will apparently be here in a few weeks. Out of almost 900 pieces, missing 3 is not bad. (We used cafeteria trays to hold the loose pieces, and since all three are the same and only instances of that item, I am certain they were left out of the kit rather than lost.)My only complaint with this set is that it took us about three hours, and that's after slowing down when we realized the fun would be over so soon. I really thought that a $90 set would last a little longer, but maybe that's because replay value for us is limited. My daughter loves assembling Legos but not really playing with the finished product. However, they are still cool to look at and display. In fact, I don't know that she'll let her 8 year old brother play with them, since they do seem to be a bit fragile. I can see vital parts easily coming off and being lost. Regardless, we will certainly be collecting more.

Lots of fun for a thrilled 11-year-old boy
In typical style, Legos are great. My son saw this in Wal-Mart and flipped. [I like shopping on Amazon because I don't have to pay for a babysitter or fuel. And I LOOOOOVE Free Shipping!!!!! And Amazon's return policy: It doesn't get much easier!]Oh yes... the toy:One of the things I like about it is the instruction-following that the assembly requires. My son usually has an aversion to following directions, but with this toy it's required. I have been impressed. And he is so proud of his finished work!My only complaint is.... wow Legos have gotten expensive since I was a kid! :)

Great Product
From a adult that loved Legos as a kid, I was very happy to get this for my son. He was thrilled when he opened the package on his birthday. The items are a little smaller than you might think, after seeing them online, and of course Lego brand products are very expensive, but these are of great quality and are incredible learning tools for a 6 year old. I am very happy with this purchase and would definitely buy it again.
