Works great...with a catch!
We recently moved to SoCal and have two houses that back to our terraced back yard on the north side. Each one has an annoying barking dog. It got to be so we couldn't even have our windows open at all bc one dog barked all day long, while the other barked most of the evening. Most of the time, I don't have any clue what they're barking at. But they definitely barked at us as well, when we were in the yard, OR when we went upstairs and the one could see us through our upstairs window. We had to close the blinds so he wouldn't be set off. It got ridiculous. How the previous owners of this house put up with that, I have no idea. So I could be nasty and call animal control - our county animal control allows you to lodge an anonymous complaint and give them a time frame during which the "nuisance barker" usually is being a nuisance. They'll come out and if they witness the nuisance barking, they'll cite the owner. I didn't wanna go straight for the jugular so I looked around for something like the Petronik. I researched a lot of these before landing on this one. It was one of the less expensive options and many reviews said it worked, although for this kind of product in general, reviews seem to mostly be below 4 stars and it seems like most of the reviews indicate that it's effectiveness is just hit or miss. So, going in, I didn't have a ton of hope but thought it would be a "good faith" place to start. I set it up, tested it, and set it to level two right off the bat. The closest annoying dog was right there as I hung it. He immediately stopped barking, tried again a coupla times, and then turned and trotted away. W.O.W. So this thing works! The dog in the other yard is further away from the device and will still get going, but not as often, I've noticed. He's the day barker, so I'm not as determined to make him/her stop, but I MIGHT purchase a second unit to hang closer to that dog's fence.HOWEVER, THERE'S ALWAYS A CATCH! Although our evenings are now gloriously quiet, one of my two dogs now hates to go outside. He will go with some coaxing, he'll chill and nap, but the moment he realizes someone is home, he's at the door, pawing to get in. He never goes up on the hillside anymore (and he used to) and he seems a little more nervous these days. Our other dog does not seem to notice it's there - we have always wondered if she might have some hearing loss, so this might explain why it is only affecting one of our dogs. So that is definitely a drawback. ALSO, there is a VERY bright LED light that flashes green every five seconds to let you know the thing is on and battery life is good. I passed my upstairs window one night to see a bright flash of light coming from the place where this thing hung, and it was like a flashing green strobe into my neighbor's yard. I actually don't think they ever step foot outside (everything is dusty, their yard is poorly cared for, and we never hear them) but I still don't wanna have that flashing into their back windows like a jerkball. SO....what's a girl to do??? I am going to turn the level down to one and see if we get the same results without stressing my dog out. I am also going to put a piece of black tape over the LED light. I won't be able to see what battery life is like, but I can't be annoying my neighbor. If only they had the same consideration for us! Anyway, if my dog is still stressed on level one, or the neighbor dog isn't as quiet, then I'll be calling animal control. I wanted this to be the solution but I can't be stressing my animals out in the process.

Sort of worked
This sort of worked, it worked on my neighbors dogs, but it made him kind of fence aggressive. It worked on one of my dogs but it made her cower especially when I carried it into the house to change the battery and brought it back out. She knew it was the source of discomfort. It had no affect on my big dog, none whatsoever.Battery life was nonexistent, I was replacing the 9 V batteries every four days. And I turn this off at night just to help with the battery life. I tried energizer Brand, Duracell brand, the store brand and pretty much got the same timeframe from all of them. As soon as it stopped working all the dogs were barking again, it did not teach them anything.I finally had to go talk to my neighbors and asked her if she had a schedule of when she took her dogs out, which she did. I make sure my dogs are inside during that time. And everybody’s life is much easier.

Worked at first
I noticed at first my dogs did not bark as much , I noticed one of my dogs shook in fear so I turned it down to a lower setting ( there are 5 settings) now that I turned it down they don’t care about it ! I feel bad turning it up bc she is scared of it! I plan to try it in a new location in the house to see if it helps!

Finally some peace and quiet
I gave this four stars because I have only had this about a week. I was VERY skeptical about desperate to do something about my neighbor's out of control German Shepherd. One day after the german shepherd busted through the fence and tried to come at my husband and our tiny dog my order arrived. We had endured months of barking, growling and aggressive behavior from this dog. I had tried to be a good neighbor and work it out with the people next door but they absolutely don't care and would leave him out there for hours barking. It took only about two times for him to bark at us once we had the Ultrasonic bark deterrent hung in a nearby tree, and the most he does is a low growl at us now. He is obviously a smart dog and realized that whatever sound was being emitted was not fun. This has been well worth the money spent and I am so glad I finally took matters in to my own hands. We face the bark deterrent towards our neighbor's fence and have it on the highest setting. Keep in my mind too this is a dog who basically laughed at a dog whistle and could bark continuously for 3 to 4 hours if left alone in the yard. If you are desperate as I was, try this product. I don't if it works on every dog but it definitely worked on this German Shepherd.

This kind of works....
We have a high strung border collie that lives next door to us. The owners let the dog out and she stands on the sidewalk between our two houses and barks over and over again---endlessly. We put this product on our small deck next to the sidewalk in the hope that it would make her go to the complete other side of their yard to do her barking. We didn't have ANY kind of expectation that it would make her stop barking. So from that perspective, it did work mostly. When she sees the mailman still gets so wound up that she doesn't go to the other side of the yard. However, if she's just barking at leaves or air or something else that only she knows about, then she barks a couple of times and goes to the other side of their back yard. She shows no reaction as though she was in any kind of pain from the noise that this produces. We've thought about getting a second one so she sets off two of them. We'd do that in the hope that she'd just stay away from our house completely. No sure if it would work.

Actually seems to work.
Nuisance large dig next door suffers separation anxiety, but the owners don't believe it as they never hear it...Well they wouldn't would they, they're not home.So put this device on top of my garden shed overlooking their small back yard. The dog definitely barks much less and only a couple of barks then grunts and shuts up. Can only put it down to this device as nothing else changed. Bit heavy on battery use but I do run it on highest setting and also cover the bright led with tape so it's not so obvious to them.

Does Nothing
Don’t waste your money. Doesn’t pick up dog next door 3mts away barking its head off. Manually forcing it to operate , the dig could care less. I returned mine
