This gate was easy to install. The directions were perfect and even includes a template for placement and pilot holes. While it says one hand open, that is debatable. I use two, in order to not cause stress on the hinge side wall. The clasp is easily released with one hand, however I usually support the gate while I am subtly lifting it in an out of the clasp support.Overall great gate. I use it in a hallway to keep big dogs out of the bedrooms and office, while the little dogs and cat can slide under. I added the clasp on the wall (not included) for times when I need it to stay open. I am very happy with this purchase!

This gate is nicely made, it feels strong and sturdy. It was a bit difficult to adjust to size and my boyfriend had to cut blocks to make it fit but thays fine because ou new place doesn't ahve a standard door or entry. Our new place is very hot and only has two windows that open, I purchased this so I can have the front door open and to keep my dogs inside ehile getting some air flow. He also put a latch up so it can be latched open when the door is closed, coming and going or letting the dogs go out. I'm glad it worked out. I really like that it swings both ways, although we don't use that feature and that there is no step over threshold. It latches pretty good with assisting ( it doesn't just close behind you) and opens well with one hand if you press the button down with your thumb and use your 4 fingers to pull up on the gate.

The media could not be loaded.  I looked everywhere to find a pet gate that would suit my needs. I needed something without that bar at the bottom to have to step over & something that could be easily opened. My big problem was dogs in the kitchen while I was cooking. The nice thing about this gate is it has two screws on the ends that can be adjusted so that the gate doesn’t do a hard lock. Instead, it can click closed, like a soft close. I don’t want it to lock firmly into place because I come & go through the kitchen all day, so I loosened the screws so it can open with a gentle nudge (see video of my dog walking through.) Of course if you wanted to have the gate lock firmly closed, like if it was at the top of a staircase, you can definitely do that, but for my purposes, this feature makes it more convenient. I love that my pets can leave the kitchen, but they can’t get back in!! I ended up buying a second gate for the bedroom because I love it so much.

Although Northstates TODDLER gates identical to this one are Made in the USA, if you buy the Northstates identical PET gate version, it is made in China. By making the PET gate in China, Northstates is able to offer this gate $5 cheaper than the American made TODDLER gate. My first choice is never to purchase made in PRC. My first choice is to buy Made in the USA and reviews that I'd read about the TODDLER gate said that it was Made in the USA--which it is, but I accidentally ordered the one made in China for my puppy from Amazon instead. I returned the made in Guangdong, China PET gate and contacted Northstates and let them know how disappointed I am in this strange manufacturing practice all to save $5 and put Americans out of work.

Took me a minute to figure out which way the instructions were showing some of the pieces (they look the exact same either way you turn it but it DOES make a difference) but once I got it together I was in love with the gate. I bought it because before this we had a baby gate that you had to step over or remove because it didn't have a door and my parents were coming for a visit and that wasn't going to cut it. I bought this because the price was hard to beat, the color was beautiful, and because I could install it myself (though I should have waited for the husband to do it). Now it's so much easier to keep our dogs in their playroom and I'm not worried about the entire thing coming crashing down if they jump on it. 100% worth every penny

We have a large door opening (44 inches) and the biggest reason we got this is because there is no bottom threshold to stub our toes on or trip over in the night. It was reasonably priced and a great value. This gate is used to keep our two large breed dogs (German Shepherd and Yellow Lab mix) from going into rooms they don’t need to be in. The instructions are fine. They may require a little more concentration than average but definitely manageable. It is very sturdy. It opens smoothly. It is installed in a high traffic area and gets opened and closed multiple times per day. On the instructions, if you want to open it both ways as demonstrated in the video, be sure to pay attention to that in your manual if you aren’t looking at it, you may miss the sentence that tells you what to do if you want it to open both directions. I was pleasantly surprised and will be purchasing another for our hallway. Highly recommend.

We have since installed two of these gates in our home for our new puppy (with full intention of using it as our baby gate as well) and love them! It is a full swing gate which is so nice in comparison to all of the middle swing or lift gates. It is easy to open one-handed and when you get them installed correctly, it will slam closed itself so you don't have to clip it open and closed. The two gates are identical and installed on two different sized openings in our house. We definitely think the gate is well worth the money.
