Positioning: The Logic of Sailboat Racing

Good (but not as good as "Tactics for Small Boat Racing")
I did get this after reading "Tactics of Small Boat Racing" (TSBR) by the same author over the last couple of winters. And I did get some further nuggets of information regarding race positioning which is not covered in that book as explicitly. The book itself is somewhat more repetitive in its phrases - that does help to drive it home but also gives a sense of "didn't I read that before"). Also I did prefer the TSBR format of small essays. Also the diagrams are not as clear as the diagrams in TSBR.If I could only get one book, I would get TSBR, but I did learn quite a few things (since they were put differently) so it was not wasted, but given the repetition and diagrams 4 stars.

Lots of your racing "why" answered
During the race, you see WHAT others are doing. This book provided me with lots of explanations about WHY the best racers are doing what they are doing - a kind of explanations you so rarely can get from other racers, coaches, etc. Invaluable for self-training.

Highly recommended.
Dr. Walker's latest book on sailboat racing theory and practice. It is his most comprehensible and he clarifies some of his early "dogma" which was based on racing in certain locales and specific classes of boats. Highly recommended.

Not an easy read but very worthwhile for the improving club dinghy racer.
An old edition but the examples and discussions are all still relevant today .. not an easy read but very informative all the same.Worth it to get from the middle to the front of the fleet.Covers DINGHY sailing not cruisers.

cover damaged
The book was bought as a gift. When it arrived the cover was damaged but we did not have time to return it so gave it to the recipient anyway. It looked as if a sharp blade had been passed across the front cover.Otherwise the book was fine.

Things that are difficult to learn and remember
As a sailboat racer, and as electrical engineer with passion for mathematics, this book brings me new perspectives on the topics of strategic and tactical considerations on the courses. Simple in theory, but so difficult to learn, remember and practice in reality. Like a game of chess - the rules are simple, but the combinations and variations are almost infinite. And you can be just in the mittle of it and see how it unfolds around you.
