"Award-winning actress Claudia Karvan (Jack Irish) stars in this charming legal comedy-drama from the producers of Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries. When her offices are firebombed by an angry client, consulting solicitor Josephine Newton is forced to take a new job as a barrister at Knox, a high-powered legal firm where her old flame Lewis (Toby Schmitz, Black Sails) works. Worried about leaving behind her former clients turned colleagues, Josephine sets up a new legal office in the building’s basement for Johnny (Sean Keenan, Glitch), a reformed car thief, and Helena (Georgina Naidu, SeaChange), a brilliant legal mind with a crippling fear of courtrooms. As Josephine tackles high-profile cases with Lewis upstairs, she secretly consults with Helena and Johnny downstairs. Throw in a teenage daughter and a husband (Brett Tucker, The Americans) who doesn’t seem to understand the meaning of a trial separation, and Josephine’s new life is more hectic than ever. Funny and quirky, Newton’s Law provides “a welcome break from TV’s parade of dysfunctional antiheroes” (The Guardian, UK)."

Refreshing law procedural drama/comedy from Australia
In 2017 it is refreshing to see a TV show that is produced that is actually G-Rated. The show is clean and for those in the US, it felt like it had shades of Allie McBeal to it (mostly with the music that accompanies the scenes). I am still getting used to the short season that seems to prevail in British/Australian TV shows, but this one had 8 episodes. The supporting cast is great and Josephine the main character clearly has her hands full juggling her life in a new law firm while still remaining in contact with her old law firm who sets up shop in the garage of the building where she works at.Another nice part of the Season is the inclusion of Special Features that is like a Behind the Scenes look at the show. It adds a lot of background info. For instance the high priced artwork in the show is referred to as being painted by Perkins who is one of the set-up producers for the show (something painted by him for the show)I am looking forward to the 2nd season and hopefully a longer number of episodes.

Very Enjoyable Viewing
I enjoyed this program so much I purchased my own copy. There is a lot in this little program. I was fully engaged with the characters and the stories and foresaw much to come with future programs.Sadly not to be. Apparently cancelled after 1 season. Hard to believe something so gentle and fine can't go a few seasons with all the detritus floating around out there. An especially pleasant aside for me was the musical sound track - they did a nice job - light - quirky - fitting - enhancing the programming. The musical director was great in my opinion.Give it a go - especially if you're tired of coarse and brutal programming.

Too bad it is over
My wife and I really enjoyed this show. We found the stories interesting and the characters realistic and likeable. We were hoping there would be more seasons to come but unfortunately some of the best TV shows only last one season. Still it is fun while it lasted.

Fun. I'm waiting for the next season.
Fun romp through the British legal system. The bit about the office in the trailer in the car park is a bit implausible (as the ability to flout the rules as much as the main character gets away with is) but it's all in good fun, and we get to see a lot of the different stereotypes in British society. Enjoyable.

This was an enjoyable binge night for me.
I like the acting, the stories, and the setting. Australia is producing some very enjoyable and unique series these days. I look forward to the second season.

Flat out fun to watch.
Quirky, likeable characters. That should be a kiss of death, but both my husband and I enjoyed the series very much indeed (and he usually prefers much darker shows with lots of icky stuff). If there's a Season 2, we'll jump on the waiting list. Highly recommended.

Ho hum
Sorry to say, but I did not enjoy this dvd. I found it boring and rather silly. Would suggest that it is not worth the money or your time.
