Delitaliana Spanish Saffron Tin 14-Gram, All Red Coupe Quality Threads Category I, Pure Saffron Filaments

This is a poor quality product. The filaments are course and the yellow part of the cat 1 grade is bs. Grades are in order of strength: coupe, finest; mancha, second; rio , third; standard, fourth; and sierra weakest grade. The finest grade is all red and just stigmas, grade 2 contains red stigmas and end part of the style which is yellow or white and connects the stigmas to the flower. Grade 3 is the stigmas connected to the entire style. At best this is grade 2 rio. If as I said its even real saffron. The yellow styles in this are not even connected to the stigmas, an indicator of fraud! I waited to review this until I tried it a few times and did a good bit of research. The quality of this is poor!

Meh. Barely adequate saffron. Basically, this is the equivalent of the "saffron" (mostly turmeric) sold at Kroger. The little tin is cute. I plan to use it to hold guitar picks or other small items when these unidentifiable orange strands are gone. I had planned to use the saffron for paella and other dishes, but I'll have to look elsewhere for something that actually smells and tastes good. Hint: buy your saffron and other spices from Penzey's or some other reputable spice dealer.Spices are like ice cream: the good stuff isn't cheap, and the cheap stuff isn't good. I should have known better than to buy bargain basement saffron. You get what you pay for. If you're lucky. If you buy this stuff, you don't even get that.I additionally object strongly to the seller sending unsolicited spam e-mails begging for positive reviews for a mediocre (or less) product sold by a mediocre (or less) merchant.

I bought this saffron to add to paella that I was making for some guests. I got a whiff of its beautiful aroma the very second I removed the plastic wrapping from around the tin. It was very aromatic, perfectly colored and of high quality. I have had paella at some VERY fine restaurants and the paella I made yesterday was equally enchanting! I attribute the deliciousness of my own paella I made yesterday to this saffron. There was one person who commented that this saffron had no flavor and another person commented that it didn't "taste as expected". As to the first person, I found this saffron was incredibly flavorful (as in FULL of FLAVOR) and as to the second person, I don't know what they were expecting, but saffron has a unique flavor all its own. It is difficult to nail down a description of what saffron tastes like, but it should taste a bit like pungent honey with hints of floral--and that is what this saffron tasted like! On top of the awesome flavor, the cost was VERY wallet-friendly! It is very rare that you find saffron for this price that tastes this good! I will definitely be buying more of this product in the future, and also will definitely be checking out other products by Delitaliana!

Ummmm, no. Smells like plastic and tastes like plastic. Will NEVER buy again. Seller shipping was fast, will give it that. Nice tin I could have bought at Dollar Tree. Please, I rarely leave bad reviews, do not waste your money.

Cute tin. Terrible odor. Removed product from plastic bag to air out. Only became worse. Will not pollute my good food. Terrible. My nose tells me it was treated with some chemical. Can’t understand good reviews. But one review stated a strand of this ruined the flavor of an entire loaf of bread. I believe it. Couldn’t wash stench off my hands. Awful.

I normally buy my saffron from a brick and mortar store in one of the communities near by. Because it is a bit further than the local shopping district and trying to minimize how many places I shop at during the shut down of our county, I was unable to go out to that particular store. I thought I would try Amazon for it. I was pleasantly surprised. It was not overpriced and I also received over double what I receive from the store where I buy it. Flavor wise- it right in line with the saffron from the store. I also like the container it comes in. It seems airtight. Metal. So no light is going to destroy it either. Would definitely buy again.

This is a fabulous deal. To test the quality of Saffron you place several stamens in a bit of water in a glass dish/bowl. After a few minutes the water should turn yellow and not be cloudy, the stamens should remain red and not become clear. This test tells you if the Saffron is laced with Safflower stamens. Also, a good sign is there are some yellow stamens which is natural to genuine Saffron, and this does have some yellow stamens.The bottom line is this is a great deal for such a high priced product which sometimes rivals the price of gold, depending on the quality. The one thing I would suggest is to place the tin in an air tight bag as soon as it arrives. I let mine sit in a drawer for several weeks and when I finally opened it, to make Paella, and it was quite dry - MY BAD. You live and learn.I would recommend this in a heartbeat. Back in the 60,s in philly my buddy Jimmy's dad owned a shoe repair shop and to get to his house I had to walk through the shop. As soon as I opened this the first thing that came to mind was fresh leather just like Jimmy's dad's shop. I don't think saffron is suppose to smell like this and it's pungent to.
