ok software for guitar beginners.
Software has video clips showing how to play the exercise and also audio tracks , both fast & slow paced,so you can listen to track whilst repeating yourself. It also shows a picture display of the strings of your guitar that you should be playing and your finger positions on the frets .Works fine on windows 7 and 4 year old pc.

Fantastic fun
I was very keen to try this, being a drummer I have always fancied trying guitar and despite being a champion at 'Guitar Hero' this was finally my chance to try it for real properly, I already own 3 guitars and toyed with real lessons for a while but was put off with the extra expense so for £20 and something to last you a long time to work through this is an absolute steal!Absolutely essential for beginners up to intermediate! Features all my personal favourite songs and novel thingssuch as the guitar tuner, so if you haven't already invested in one this is a fantastic way to tune up, and I have actually found it is more accurate than my own I had bought! You simply use the microphone and it teaches you how to tune.In a couple of hours I'd learn't 2 songs that were recognisable by my friends so I can't recommend it any more! I'm going through the stages and while I'm not quite ready to leave my drums to be a guitar hero, I think i'm on my way!Great present idea for he budding guitarist/rock star! and best of all it is fun!

Easy little computer programme.
I am relatively new to the world of guitar playing so I was very impressed at how quickly I was able to pick up the basics. The lessons are very short and simple but there is help all the way, either through video clips of the expert Charles McCrone or through the animated fretboard. The lessons are fairly wide ranging for the beginner and there are also helpful hints on things such as picks, strings and recording equipment. In addition, you are able to tune your guitar through the computer (but you need a microphone to do this). You can also record yourself. All in all, for the absolute beginner this is an ideal programme to start with. My 11 year old son had a go and he was able to play almost straight away. The only gripe i would have with this programme is that while the music you play is familiar and enjoyable it could do with being more extensive and more up-to-date. Or why not have different programmes as with Guitar Hero so you can play other types of music.

Very Good Electric Guitar Tutor.
If you've just bought an electric guitar or been given one then this is a pretty good PC based tutor. Lots of basic electric guitar skills demonstrated and the techniques used are excellent like being able to reverse the video to suit left and right handed people and having a split screen effect where you are able to see close up's of what both hands are doing at the same time to ensure you get it right. The other tutor I have used was the Guitar playing for dummies and that's not bad but scores over this as it addresses both electric and acoustic guitars. However this scores over the Dummies version as the instructor seems to interact with the viewer better and seems more plausible. If you can afford to then get them both. The Dummies guide book is more educational, but this one would appeal to the younger 'rocker' looking to wail his first tunes from a guitar.

a good follow on from guitar hero
i gave this one straight to my 15 year old and she loves it you can start learning and playing straight away, i even had a go. its great to follow on from a persons interest in guitar hero if they then want to learn to play for real . the videos are great and the lessons nice and short so you can dip in and out . i always think these things should allow some kind of choice of tracks though, perhaps to download current tracks . overall though a very good option for someone who has no experience/beginner who would like to learn guitar. alot cheaper than booking lessons and then the child dropping them because they dont like it anymore.

A great fun program
I have been playing the guitar for over 30 years now, and have been asked to teach nephews and nieces a few of the basics, and whilst this program is obviously derived from a video game, it does have some fairly usable elements, such as the video tutorials, chord library and metronome ... by the way, I would recommend installing this on a laptop rather than a PC ... just for additional mobility. There is a good mix of older, and newer music to learn, so we at least have a chance of finding something in common to learn and play.I would have liked to have seen a basic chord dictionary included, but they are only a few pounds. All in all, a bit of fun, with enough behind it to encourage beginners.
