They flex to fit your space and hold their shape well. They're just coconut coir wrapped around a pole, so you could make one of these yourself (my roommate has before), but it likely won't hold its shape quite as well, and you'll need to use something flexible (these have an aluminum core) if you want to be able to bend like these.
