The short one fits in front of sink area and the longer one in front of stove just as shown. It doesn't smell at all and seems durable for the heavy traffic a kitchen usually experiences. They look really nice and I’ve received so many compliments on them. They last forever if your puppy doesn’t chew them up, lol! Great deal, you won’t be disappointed
