A skilled climber picked a flower from a vine growing in the canopy of the rain forest and presented it to the Queen. This style represents the special flower. It Is rare to see one of these flowers when fresh. It now is even more rare to see this artful design as a great many modern smiths are no longer taught this historical style due to the high level of patience and skill required. As a foreigner to Thailand I am honored to have been taught to create this style. A halo of sawed prongs securely mount the solitary gemstone in an intricately created and highly decorated basket. Hand engraved flowers grace the flanking plates. The band is split under the plates. This is a comfort fit band that is built heavy. Gemstone Description This is a Thai star Sapphire in a black color. This is an unheated and untreated Star Sapphire with a natural floating star that is complete with six long rays. The star in this fine gem shows itself with medium high brightness, medium sharpness and is nicely centered. This natural star is not diffused but instead occurs naturally by the alignment of inclusions in the crystal structure. This well polished gemstone weighs 2.30 carats and is a marquise cabochon that measures 11.6 x 6.3 x 3.1 mm. This is a natural gem that has color zoning. This is a very stable gem with a hardness of 9 on Moh's scale. Sapphire is the birthstone of September.
