The Boys and Girl From County Clare

Great movie!
Funny, authentic, and a good reminder of how the timeless never changes. This one is a keeper. Its probably not something most people will "like" per se, but for those of us whose hearts already beat to the ceili drum, then this one is for you!I had a friend tell me that this review was too spare, so let me add a few more things to it:1. It appears to be mostly shot on location, with great backdrops of both town and countryside, which to me is a plus.2. The music is authentic. If you like this kind of music (which I personally love), then it will inspire you to watch it more often. My only regret is that I cannot find a soundtrack for the movie on itunes.3. Its a funny and light-hearted movie which is uplifting and puts a smile on the face. But, for those of us with some personal relationship to the events, or with family that once lived in that place and time, its also a slightly melancholy reminder of what once was, and may yet be lost to the march of consumerism and cultural decay. I would even go so far as to say that, in my personal opinion, ethnocide is a very real thing that has happened in Ireland over many centuries, most of it overt, and some of it from a lack of will to fight against it over several generations. This movie is inspiring, then, to those of us who still have the will to fight against it. IT is a testament to a slice of time and space where culture and tradition and community still existed (and in some places, still does). It is a hopeful movie for that reason.4. This is a great family movie, BUT, there are a couple of scenes (very brief) that were needless and instead a bit gratuitous. My kids still watched it with my wife and I - but we skipped one scene since the adults had pre-screened the movie first. Aside from that one minor issue, the movie is a perfect family movie.

Irish fun to be had in Boys & Girl From County Clare
Corrs singer Andrea Corr stars as Anne a young talented fiddle player in an Irish ceili band trying to repeat as champions of the All-Irish band championship. Anne is sheltered by her mum played by Charlotte Bradley who is overprotective of Anne much to Anne's dismay. Anne wants to experience romance in her life but her mum has other plans which leads to conflict between the two. Bernard Hill plays John Joe the group's leader and Anne's mum friend. The leading contender to dethrone the band is a band from Liverpool lead by Bernard's younger successful brother Jimmy played by Colm Meany who hasn't seen or heard from John Joe for over 20 years. The two feuding brothers seem to stop at nothing to prevent the other band from registering in the contest. While at the contest Anne falls for flute player Teddy-played by Shaun Evans who is also the rival band's best player. Anne's mother wants no part of this budding romance and forbids Anne from seeing Teddy. During the course of the contest Anne learns the truth about her father and why her mum is so bitter and protective of her. The movie is full of high-jinxs between the two brothers and the music in the movie is terrific! The movie is full of emotional moments and you will laugh throughout the movie. Full of fine acting(Corrs singer Andrea Corr does a Brilliant job in her first leading role) and Irish scenery( filmed in Northern ireland) You will enjoy this movie!

It was cute!
Is it Oscar-worthy? Not at all. Is it predictable? Absolutely! Is it light-hearted, cute, fun, funny and entertaining? Yep!Though Andrea Corr's acting was pretty mediocre and some of the scenes were cheesy and predictable, I actually really enjoyed this movie. I'm a huge fan of Irish music, Irish culture, Irish movies, and just the country of Ireland in general, so movies like this are generally right up my alley ("Waking Ned Devine" is one of my all-time favorite movies, for example). This is a cute, lighthearted, feel-good type of film. That's the kind of movie I'm usually in the mood for and this one didn't disappoint.Like I said before, some of the scenes are corny and some of the acting, in my opinion, is a little questionable at times. It's very predictable and anybody could guess the ending, but at the end of the day this movie is entertaining. There are quite a few funny parts to it that made me chuckle and smile.I enjoyed it, overall, and will watch it again when I'm in the need for a cute Irish comedy.

Irish music and charm!
I checked this movie out from the library and loved it so much I bought it the next day from Amazon! I play guitar and violin and now I want to learn to play Irish fiddle music! The characters are charming and I love the chemistry between Andrea Corr (the Corrs are awesome) and Shaun Evans. I learned they were an item at the time and it shows. It was a hoot watching the brothers sparring together. Colm's potty mouth was a little much but it was fitting with his angry character. I was initially put off with the R rating and nudity indication but it turned out to be only a harmless nude swim in the river. Rating should have been PG-13. The vomiting I could've done without but I loved everything else. The Feakle traditional music festival is held every August and after seeing this show I want to go take a workshop or two!

A lot of barfing--it's not pleasant
I bought this film because I really love Colm Meaney--a great actor. ("The Van" is a really good film, but hard to find.) And I think this is probably a pretty decent film once you get past its flaw: people seem to be barfing all over the place. I'm not talking a little off-camera puke, I'm talking about Niagra Falls--and the people reaching into it to get their false teeth. Personally, I find it gross. To sit down to eat dinner and watch a movie and then watch half the cast spew, forget it. If there was a good movie in here, they lost me 10 minutes into the film. I wish I could get my money back.

Charming and Fun
If you like Irish music you will love this film which included Andrea Corr of The Corrs among it's cast. The acting is good and there is some great scenic views to enjoy as well. The story centers around two estranged brothers who are competing in a ceili band competition. Each will stop at nothing to get the better of the other. The result plenty of fun along the way.

Humour close to "Waking Nef Devine."
We like this movie. Much like Waking Ned Devine but with a whole lot more "colourful" language. A good story line with lots of laughs, great Irish music plus some good moral lessons.
