Excellent Vise
Highly recommend this product.Ordered this vise because getting back into fly tying again. Ordered the one with the base, the brass screws, the extender, the handle, and the posts. Recall using a cheap vise when started tying a long time ago. Fortunately, lost that one in a move! This vise is like upgrading to a performance automobile.Customer service. Ordered the handle but had some issues because the first one did not fit. The Peak company is awesome and responsive with resolving issues. In today's context this is a rare skill that many companies have lost a grip on BUT not Peak. In addition ordered the posts but one was missing the screw. Again Peak came through very responsive. Cannot rave about this company enough on this item.Durability. I am not a machinist or mechanical what-so-ever but this is a fine little machine that accomplishes the task of tying flies. Unfortunately, the vise does better than the results of many of my efforts but that is on me not the vise.Sturdy. This vise has some heft and does not topple over. In comparison bought a travel vise and the base moves at times which is annoying. Not the Peak vise, it does not move one iota.Portability. I do not travel much but think it would break down nicely if taking it on vacation or a fishing expedition/adventure.Overall, perceive the investment in this product is for life because it is so well designed and manufactured. Their attentiveness to the voice of the customer is par excellence. Now I need to get back to tying to ensure my skills match the capabilities of the vise!

Excellent vise for the money
I've been tying flies for over 40 years and have an assortment of vises at my disposal, I will put the Peak Rotary vise against any of them for hook holding, usability, and stability.

A wonderful rotary fly tying vise and a very good investment.
Like many I started out tying on a very inexpensive imported vise. As my fly tying improved I knew I wanted a rotary style vise. I had the opportunity to see the Peak Rotary Vise and I was impressed with the build quality and design and was also happy to find a domestically manufactured product that is very competitively priced. After comparing it to other options I ordered it. I have spent some time tying with it before writing this review and I must say that this is a product I would buy again. I use the rotary function more than I thought I would, it makes so many things so much easier. The jaw is so easy to work with, it clamps firmly and with very little effort. The vise is strong, stable, and should last me a lifetime. I enjoy my fly tying more than ever and I tie better flies thanks to this vise. I highly recommend this vise. The "plastic" screws some people complain about are tough and serve their purpose well. They show no signs of wear, and protect the shaft from wearing, don't be afraid of them.

Exceeds my expectations
This vise is exceeds my expectations. Instructions for setup and use included. I ordered the clamp version and there was an allen wrench for the setscrew to adjust the height. I wanted to lubricate the vise before use, but there was no allen wrench to remove the hook jaws. No matter, I had one in my toolbox. Thescrews for the bobbin holder and the drag on the rotary feature are plastic, but they are adequate for the task, and I believe better than the brass ones made available by Peak because they won't score the metal. The layout to adjust the tension on the rotary feature and actually rotating the fly is well thought out. The cam for the hook jaws is substantial and should never wear out if lubricated regularly. The included bobbin cradle is easily adjustable for height and length, easily rotates out of the way, and is snag free.

A bit on the rough side
Just got the vise tonight, and tied half dozen flies on it. Some thoughts so far:- the quality is good, but not excellent. Teeth marks on the shaft. The thumb-screws are plastic and rough. Had to use a wrench to tighten the screw to lock the shaft from rotating freely. Lots of brass shavings fell out of the holes.- in terms of usability, the lever for tightening the jaws is a little awkward. It sits between the jaws and the riser, so it's hard to immediately find it with my left hand without looking. Perhaps a question of getting used to it.- no material clip :( I'll have to make my own.- I rotated the vise towards me and flipped the hook upside down (180deg) to make a polish woven nymph. I had to use the allen wrench to free the riser, then turn it, then tighten with the allen. Awkward -- a thumb screw for the riser would be so much nicer.- I like the clamp, it's bomber. Having two places for the setscrew gives some options in terms of where the vise can go.- The jaws are nice, and I tied flies from #10 to #20 without having to adjust anything. That was great. Debarbing a #20 hook was a bit difficult, as I the gape was almost smaller than the diameter of the jaws themselves. On the overall, I'll keep the vise. It's a bit on the rough side, but I enjoy the rotary functionality and with a few tweaks I'll get used to it.

very easy, especially for a new guy
I am new to fly tying and after researching vices and reading reviews I purchased the Peak rotary Fly Tying Vise. I have tied about 15 different flies with different hook sizes and thickness and am really impressed with the vice. It is well made, the base plate is heavy enough to keep the vice from moving. The vice holds the hooks without slipping and the rotary head makes getting to bottom of fly and adding head cement or material for streamers, etc. very easy, especially for a new guy. While I am new to fly tying and don't have much experience I really like the way this vice functions and am very pleased with it so far.

Ware Top, Service Flop!
