Acid-Base, Fluids, and Electrolytes Made Ridiculously Simple

really worth the money
I am really glad I bought this book - it is worth every penny I spent on it. The book has 10 chapters: the first two are an introduction to physiology and basic rules of iv fluid therapy -both very helpful; seven chapters are dedicated to specific disturbances of water, electrolyte and acid-base balance and one to more complex disturbances. Both diagnosis and treatment are discussed, as well as consequences of inadequate treatment. The author introduces several key concepts and gives many clinical examples so as to reinforce them. At the end of every chapter there are clinical cases to solve - more than 100 cases in the whole book. As in real life, we encounter uncompliant or unknown patients, some cases are „telephone consultations". Detailed answers are provided. The book is easy to read, almost „chatty". What irritated me was its very monotonous layout, obviously not the author's fault (there are tables and figures all right, if only the editor took some pains to do make the book as attractive visually as its content deserves...). Another thing I missed were „the other electrolytes" - there are chapters on hypo- and hypernatremia, hypo-and hyperkalemia... and there the list of electrolytes seemingly ends - what about calcium, magnesium and chloride, at least?I think the book should be helpful to medical students, junior doctors and nurses - and to everybody else who'd like to feel (really) comfortable managing fluid&electrolyte imbalance. In his foreword, the author states that "it is better to know how to approach and solve clinical problems, rather than to get stuck on the fine points of pathophysiology" - well, that's what I always thought, too.

Great introductory aid to the problems of fluid balance.
An excellent, easy to read guide to sorting out fluid balance and fluid regimes in almost all situations. The book starts very simply, guiding you through the basic principles behind fluid balance and then advances to discuss commonly encountered, patient-orientated problems. Each chapter ends with a few self-test questions to help reinforce your learning.A fantastic book for all medical students and junior doctors to help get a grip of this very important and yet, usually not well taught, topic. I highly recommend it.

Perfecto
A pesar de que tardó un tiempo en llegar, llegó en perfecto estado, sin usar, sin marcas y recién salido de producción, Me parece un poco caro para el tamaño pero fuera de eso, todo excelente.

Easy Read
This book is GREAT for those who want a more in depth look at how fluids, electrolytes, and acid-base balance all intertwine. I used to work in dialysis, and I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is in that field. It explains (if you apply the knowledge to what you have learned about dialysis) why bicarb is bicarb... Exactly how it buffers since the kidney can't and a LOT more!!!For any other Field, this is the basis you will use every time you read a BMP/CMP. You will be able to look at he labs and the symptoms to determine which fluids to use. You will know why you chose that one... not just because "they always do," but because you will understand the reason that fluid is chosen and another is not.A lay person could read this and understand pretty good... but someone with basic medical training (EMT-B, MA, etc..) could read this book and learn a lot from it. At the same time as a RN/Paramedic with 17 yrs behind me, I am learning & relearning a lot of things. It ties things I have seen over the years together and they make more sense now.Summary: DEFINITELY worth the money!!! If you are in Med school or school for PA, ARNP, RN, or Paramedic, I highly recommend you read this book in what little free time you have. You will be happy you did!!!
