Ateco Lady Mary/Ateco 7-1/4-Inch Parchment Coated Paperboard Dowels, 12-Pack

I bought these for supporting cake tiers. I have used bubble straws and wooden dowels, but these are by far the best. with bubble straws, you have to add a ton of them on each layer of cake to support the cake tier above it. Makes cutting slices difficult and the customer gets less cake. Wooden dowels are difficult to cut. I use a pipe cutter and it takes forever and it's hard to get the dowels the same size with the pipe cutter. Knife doesn't work well either. So these dowels are made of thick paperboard and are coated with white parchment. They are strong and cut very easily with a knife. I love these and want to use them all the time. ... But they are the most expensive option out there. When you are trying to make money making cakes, it's hard to justify spending this much on dowels.

These perform very well, but with the Ateco name you go into it expecting that. I used them for a 4 tier wedding cake with the Ateco plates and had no problems. I did buy the 10 inch dowels so I could cut them to size and afford to make mistakes. I still have a lot left which is good because I will be using these in the future. My only thing was when I was putting it together, it was difficult to get the pillars all the way in. I had to use a spatula between the cake and plate and push hard. Much harder than I am used to. I am not sure if I had cut all the ends so they would be less sharp if that would have helped (kinda rounded around the edge). I will try that next time because it was frustrating. Other than that I really like these pillars and their price. I have always used plastic but I like these much better

Used this on a multi tier wedding cake. my first time using the sps type setup. I was pleased with the ease of cutting them to the height needed. I was pleasantly surprised because I kept thinking as they stay in the moisture they might weaken but I had one that I used for testing and it seemed to become more rigid after getting moisture on it from being inserted and removed from the cake so that made me feel better. The cake was heavy and covered in fondant and these held up nicely. I may start buying these to replace the wilton plastic ones I use on a regular basis because they are easier to cut level.

I bought these for a cake platform I wanted to elevate 'over' the cake. Ended up having to trim them "while" they were in the cake and they cut well!!

It held my niece and nephew's birthday cake celebration with no problem. The cake was heavy and it traveled from Pennsylvania to NJ. Without falling apart. I truly recommend it!!

I use these to support the bottom tier of a very large wedding cake and they worked beautifully. I will definitely be using these again and I feel very good that they are biodegradable. I just hated the thought of using disposable plastic dowel rods on my cakes that will never biodegrade

These are absolutely perfect for a stacked cake. They can be trimmed easily if they are to tall for the cake you are making. I find that they are extremely sturdy and lighter than the thick plastic supports that I have purchased in the past. I purchased ones before that were made from a hard plascic that could not be trimmed at all. the cake had to be trimmed to go with the supports. These Ateco supports can easily be used with wilton cake plates as well. I love them.

I love using these. I just wish the price wasn't so high for the amount you get. I use jumbo milkshake straws that work just the same and are much cheaper

My wife used them for two tiers and three-tier cakes and they worked perfectly in all cakes. She also said these are so much better than the plastic ones. Great purchase.

I lile these better than the plastic ones. These are easy to cut down and are still really stable.It kept the cake I made from collapsing while I travelled via bus/ skytrain with it.I’ll provably buy more as I’ll need them later.

Works perfectly with the Lady Mary plates. Makes an excellent cake structure. Easy to cut
