Swoon

This movie captured the Leopold and Loeb story in a way that moved me for a long time after watching it. I was satisfied to see it told realistically, factually. Intensely portraying Leopold's passion and need for Loeb to approve of him to the point of obeying his demonic whim of crime and the tension leading up to the crime itself. A separate reality for the cold hearted and arrogant Loeb who felt nothing as he carried out his heinous fantasy of being a master criminal. The movie clearly portrayed that symbiotic relationship which led to the sad demise for the innocent child, Bobbie Franks.I also very much liked the continuation of the story past the trial. Seems no one else went there.This movie was an artistic masterpiece.

This black and white movie was based on the Leob/Leopold murder case of the Jazz Age (1920's). After watching the film I watched the actual documentary of the murder case. It told you a little bit more, including the fact that the young murder victim was the cousin of one of the young murderers. I had also seen the Orson Welles 1959 movie that the case was based on, but this film actually dramatizes what happened to the convicted murderers during their time in prison. I watched this one with the lights on.

Great film about a horrendous crime. The black and white photography gives a dimension and a presence that color could not because it takes us back to the 1990’s. Fine acting by the two leads projecting perfectly the two arrogant, soulless killers.

Start out with a true story of a shocking crime and then, add a couple of young men who thrive in the shadow enshrowded areas floating between real life and real madness.More than simply connecting facts cronologically, this fascinating accounting of elevating violence is an in-depth study of criminal minds sinking further into depravity and madness. Their sexual preferences are highlighted, but not essential to the development of the main characters.The production will offend some in the audience, mainly because of dramatic changes in public morality. The very stylized visuals are complimentary to the era represented (the 1920's) and the perceived level of "bored sophistication."Not overwhelming with plot twists and/or dozens of unnecessary characters marching through the film; the story is easy to follow despite its bazarre nature.

Don't waste your time and money.If you are interested in the crime there is almost no meat on dem bones. If you are interested in the relationship between the killers there is even less. The attempts to be avant are painfully retro and only infect the film with a shallow 90's take on "gay".Overall it is as if you are invited to Thanksgiving dinner and all they give you is a spoonful of peas and carrots.

Fascinating treatment of the Leopold & Loeb case. We see the two from their point of view--not in the sense that this excuses their crime, but in a way that illuminates it. The black-and-white photography is imaginative and beautiful. This deals with the subject so much better than the old film, Compulsion. The two actors are remarkable.

This was film school artsy, with soft black and white photography and dramatic camera angles and zooms; an innovative interpretation of the Leopold and Loeb case.

An avant-garde take on the story of Leopold and Loeb-- the ONLY movie depicting the actual story, as far as I know. Though it takes place in the early 1920s, it incorporates modern attitudes and contains some deliberate anachronisms. An excellent and creative film.
