My husband is an armed security guard and this camera pen was a great addition to his uniform
My husband works as an armed guard and occasionally encounters situations where he had wished he had a small camera or voice recorder to record the event. This pen does both take a picture and record voice / noise and stores it on a small SD card that can be downloaded onto a PC.He liked the camera so much that he has shared the link with several of his co-workers and friends recommending that they purchase one also. The price is reasonable and the quality is good.

Simple and very discreet
Overall, this pen worked better than I expected and is a good value. Packaging is nice. The pen uses short refills (to leave room for the electronics) and it was really nice that they provided a whole bunch of extras (I counter 11 spares.) This means I can really use this as a pen for a long time. The pen actually works quite well and fits nicely in the hand. The camera did better than I imagined. There is a sliding cover built into the clip of the pen and, when covered, this completely obscures the camera's presence. It also protects the lens. For something with so small a lens, it performs very well. It seems to have a good depth of field and keeps things in focus from reading/book distance to trees in the distance. Like most digital cameras, the image gets a little grainy in lower light situations but it seems to handle most common ranges (outdoors, in a typical restaurant, etc.) very well.I didn't expect much for sound. It is pretty unclear where the microphone is but it works reasonably well. The sound was very clear although sometimes a little softer than would be ideal. Things (voices and music) were quite understandable. The only nagative I'd mention is that I found it a little hard to tell if I succeeded when turning it on and off, especially when in sunlight. There is a tiny hold in the back of the pen and it is turned on or off by pressing the top for a few seconds (I found it to be closer to 4 or 5 than the documented 3.) Seeing a blue flas in the hole indicates on, a red indicates off. Unfortunately, these lights are offset a little so they won't be seen if the pen is not at the perfect angle. Despite trying, I managed to leave the pen recording. I'd suggest some practice turning on and off. Also, the recording doesn't start until a few seconds after the blue flash, just something to be aware of.All-in-all, this performs well and I think the pen is well engineered.

Don't go to Prison
This is actually fairly easy to use as far as super spy stuff is concerned. It's discreet and the pen can pass as a slightly larger pen. You have to practice with it to figure out how to frame your subject, but once you got it, you got it.NOW, because this pen is so discreet, you may be tempted to do some unethical and maybe even illegal surveillance with this. Who's going to expect that you have a camera pen, right? That can get you in a lot of trouble, so think twice, buddy! If you're the type of person to buy gadgets like this, then you're probably not the type of person that does well in prison. Am I right? So, don't buy this pen if you don't want to go to prison. I know you're already thinking up different ways to use this pen. <shakes head> You have been warned!

A gimmick and waste of time
This was a waste of my time and money. The card holds about 3 - 5 minutes of video and I had a time trying to view the videos on my PC. I threw it away.

Meh
It’s a spy pen. But you can tell it’s a spy pen. A bit bulky and the image quality is not great. I wanted some sneaky footage but this pen doesn’t really pass as a pen in your shirt pocket like you’d think. Regretful purchase.

Super cool gadget!
The media could not be loaded. This pen camera is really cool! I love gadgets in general and it’s wild that you can get a hidden camera at such a reasonable price. We’ll start with its function as a pen. The construction in general is quite solid. The clip is nice and strong, and the rubber grip doesn’t shine up or show fingerprints after use. Since the button is used to start the camera rather than lower the pen tip, you twist the bottom of the pen to reveal the tip for writing. The twisting mechanism has no grit to it and feels high quality. Writing feels smooth, but it’s nothing special. Also of note are the 5 ink refills that are included. Now, on to the camera function. We’ll get this out of the way first. As seen in the last part of my video, the video quality is not great. Colors are drab and there is lots of artifacting when the camera is in motion. It’s absolutely useable though. Watching it back, the video reminds me of a flip phone camera video from about 10 years ago. Honestly, for such a small lens, the quality is impressive. The listing doesn’t make it super clear that the pen records audio. It absolutely does and it sounds excellent! The video files are saved on a micro SD card that you access by unscrewing the actual “pen” piece. There is also a micro B USB port for charging and data access. Upon plugging the pen in to your computer, you are greeted with just a plain folder with separate .avi files for each recording. AVI’s are an older format and not super space efficient, but I love the no nonsense approach. No special software or bloated phone app needed. Battery life is also decent at around 2 hours for me. By then you will have filled up the 64gb included SD card anyway.I was concerned at first when I saw that there was only one button, however the controls are quite simple. Hold the button for 3 seconds to start the recording and hold for 3 again to stop. There’s a small indicator light on the back that discreetly flashes to indicate that recording started. That’s all there is to it. There are still just a couple negatives to mention. The lens itself is quite conspicuous if the light catches it just right. It’s nice to have the sliding lens cover, but I would have preferred that the lens be more integrated into the design of the pen even if it cost me the cover. Also, just a small thing, when you click the button to turn the camera off, it is deafeningly loud on the recording. Just make sure to always trim that part in editing. All in all, this pen is an outstanding option if you need a hidden camera. It’s easy to use, robust, and takes decent quality video for its size. The value is also definitely there. Aaaand, it’s just plain cool!
