Silent Hill 2 in All It's Glory
Twenty-three years ago I completed the original Silent Hill 2 (2001) in my college dorm, driving my roommate nuts as I hunted down all the endings within the first five days of launch. Fast forward over two decades later and I can say that not only is Silent Hill 2 (2024) incredibly faithful to the original but may surpass it in almost every way possible. Firstoff, this game looks amazing. The world looks beautiful and the enemies look horrifying. The amount of detail will have players looking at everything to take it all in. The music and sound is world class as the original score is back in all the correct spots. This also includes new tracks that stand right along side in quality due to the return of original composer Akira Yamaoka. Getting the obvious graphical and technical advancements of the past three console generations out of the way, Bloober Team has designed an experience that greatly improves level design and exploration. Progression items and routing are moved around but in the same way Capcom refined the Resident Evil remakes to make traversal as efficient as possible. All the games that SH 2 (2001) inspired now play a role in shaping this game in the best ways possible. Nearly everything from the original SH 2 is here with many new additions. All the major areas have been increased by at least 20%, adding 6 - 10 hours depending on the play style. In the original, the player could go straight to the Woodside Apartments key then straight to the apartments, skipping the entire first town section. In Remake there are a few key items that are mandatory to solve a puzzle first, making exploration more fleshed out and necessary. With that in mind, none of it feels padded because you're always acquiring something needed to progress or survive. Speaking of survival, this game will keep players on their toes scrounging for health and ammo on a first playthrough. Combat in Remake is very satisfying and is possibly the best in an SH game. The melee weapons land heavy and squishy with satisfying feedback. Enemies have move sets that require a balance of movement, distance, and finding openings making most encounters meaningful. When multiple enemies, especially different enemy types are in the same space, encounters can turn into skirmishes quickly requiring firearms. Gun play is solid and resembles that of modern Tomb Raided or Uncharted. Its closer to RE 2/3 remakes rather than RE 4 remake. Its punchy but not very explosive. Bosses have also been redesigned for the better to work around the updated combat. Red Pyramid Thing is far more menacing and has a stronger presence throughout. Unfortunately SH 2 Remake has had controversy surrounding redesigns of some of its characters, notably Angela and Maria. While I do believe the original game nails the look and voice work for both these characters, Remake's versions are also very good. Angela looks and sounds more like a teenage girl which makes her much more unassuming and empathetic. Maria is more personable while still being flirty and snarky. Her look should be seductive and promiscuous but this has been replaced with a deeper performance, making her allure more powerful. In short, the game should not be overlooked because of the fear of political correctness. Overall Silent Hill 2 Remake is worth the time and money of Silent Hill fans, survival horror fans, and gamers looking for an atmospheric, story driven experience. For those that felt RE 2 and 3 should have included more from their respective sources, SH 2 Remake blows them out of the water with its faithfulness and additions. When the dust settles, this game could go down as one of best examples of the genre ever. Here's hoping that Bloober Team can get the go ahead to remake SH 1 and 3. They are clearly fans of the original and did their best to preserve it.

There was a hole here... It's gone now
EDIT 11/22/2024: (Review After Beating the Game) WOW. JUST. WOW!! Now that I have completly finished the game, all I can say is that I am absolutely blown away by this remake. I have played a good amount of remakes (like the complete Resident Evil franchise), but this remake makes them look like childsplay! This is by far the BEST and well put together, not only remake, but one of the best GAMES (yes,I said it) that I have every played!! I'm a looter, and it took me a complete 34 hours to beat the game. Start to finish. I posted a picture of my stats. Yes, I only died twice the entire game, but yes, I also was on an easy difficulty the first time around to get a feel of the game. Next time won't be so easy. I HIGHLY recommend this game to ANY Silent Hill fan!! Even if you're unsure, just go for it! You won't be disappointed!! If i could give this more stars, I would!! ORIGINAL REVIEW: I am a HUGE Silent Hill fan and when I heard Konami amd Bloober Team were going to do a remake of Silent Hill 2, I seriously did cartwheels! (OK, maybe not cartwheels, but I was friggin' HAPPY!!) Now that it's finally out to play, I couldn't wait for the day to come to boot it up on my Playstation 5. But, I gotta be honest, and I'm gonna get some nasty looks for this, but I'm an Xbox girl. I only have ever bought Playstation consoles for their exclusives. So, needless to say, I was pretty bummed when I heard it wasn't going to be on Xbox. At least not yet, and I wasn't going to wait, but forget all that, this game is BEAUTIFUL!! I'm big on good graphics and this game has just that. Especially with playing on my 50" TV. I, of course, chose the graphics setting over the performance setting. Although the performance setting does make it run really smooth, I just couldnt give up the better graphics option. I also have amazing headsets that can hear EVERYTHING, and take this advice... do NOT play this game with your headset volume way up like I did unless you want to give yourself a heart attack because... SPOILER... there are obviously jump scares. I mean come on, this is a Silent Hill game. I haven't played too far into the game, maybe 3 hours or so, but so far I am completely amazed. They did a fantastic job on this remake. It's beautifully terrifying and I highly recommend playing it... with the lights on!!

Great Game Great Condition
I Already Own The Game On PC And I Loved It. It's Just Very Repetitive With Bringing Stuff To Other Stuff But It Is A Remaster Of A Very Old Game. I Haven't Played The Disc PS5 Version Yet However The Disc Came It Great Condition And Nothing Seems To Be Wrong With The Case. The Disc Has No Scratches, Scruffs, Marks, Or Any Warping.

Amazing
I think this is a great game, I never played the original so I won't compare the two. It was a great experience for me, loved the story and the entire playthrough. I was constantly on the edge of my seat.

Terrifying Therapy Session in 4K
If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to pay good money to be emotionally devastated, unsettled, and stalked by monsters with heads shaped like avant-garde furniture, Silent Hill 2 on PS5 is the deluxe package. I’ve played the original back in the early 2000s, so I came into this remake knowing exactly what kind of psychological bruises I was signing up for. After about three weeks of late-night sessions, headphones on, lights off, I can confirm: the remake preserves everything horrifying, heartbreaking, and brilliant—only now it looks so real that my neighbors probably think I’m being haunted for real. The graphics are so crisp you can practically smell the fog. The sound design? Let’s just say I now jump whenever my refrigerator hums. And James Sunderland? Still the king of “men who should have just stayed home.” This is not just a game; it’s a mood, a therapy session, and a workout for your courage, all rolled into one disc.

Hands down, one of the best remakes I've played.
The purest and one of the best examples of a true remake. In my time, I've played many remakes and originals of games. Including the original silent hill 2. When I played this for the first time at a relatives house, I was shocked. The quality jump and cutscenes felt like it was made with the utmost will to create a poppin game. They lengthened the game a bit, and the atmosphere feels even creepier in my opinion... Playing in a dark room, I jump at the damn punchies... While there are a few changes in where you start and some cutscenes, its overall the same game. The combat feels smooth, and a HELL of a lot easier than the original. I can safely day I am beyond pleased with this game. Any true Silent Hill fan would love this remake. Well done Konami. I applaud you.

An amazing remake that shows it's age
If you haven't played this game, or any Silent Hill game, and you're going in blind - you'll have a much better experience with this game. This is especially so if you play fewer games in general. But invest in your PS5. You've already spent enough money on it. Let's address the obvious first. The game looks and feels amazing. It's incredibly immersive, and the environmental and enemy design is (and always was) scary, disgusting, iconic, and disturbing. The franchise is closing in on being nearly 30 years old, starting with the original PS1 system. The sound design is also the best in the industry, with nuanced cues for enemy locations, fake outs to jump-scare you, and layered with one of the best soundtracks in gaming history. The voice-acting is much better since, organically, as game productions become more expensive, video game voice-acting has vastly improved in 20 years. The gameplay is also surprisingly good. I thought I'd hate combat, and while, at first, it feels clunky, if you can time dodges and strikes, you'll master combat far before you get to the end of the game. The only times I got hit during the last six hours were during boss fights and when enemies ambushed me. What I don't like about this game is what other games do better. Traversal in this game, and all Silent Hill games, is frustrating. You spend most of the game with little to no light. At first, it's scary, but after 10 hours, it gets visually exhausting. I feel as if getting lost in the dark was designed to pad out the length of my playthrough. Exploration also needs to make more sense. I spent too much time looking at my map to figure out where I was and where I was going. I was constantly blocked by paint cans, carts, small padlocks, rope, and random furniture when I had multiple guns, pliers, and wire cutters in my inventory. I understand this is what it was like in the original game, but game design has advanced beyond this arbitrary level of invisible walls and environmental design. There is also a section of the game called "The Labyrinth." I suggest following a walkthrough guide for this entire section. It's tedious, makes little to no sense, and you can't see anything for most of the section (I mean pitch black). It's filled with unnecessary puzzles and frustrating exploration. You'll want to get through the Labyrinth as quickly as possible. It also doesn't help that it's immediately followed by the most frustrating boss fight in the game. If this whole section had been removed, I would have given this game five stars. Overall, it's a game worth experiencing at least once. There may be another remake in 10 - 20 years that addresses the issues I've listed above. I have had conversations with friends and family who tell me that they don't like video game remakes. I suspect the main reason is staying "true" to the design and mechanics, which are now decades old. We can move past that and modernize games while keeping the story and characters intact.

Amazing for old fans; absolutely worth your time
I came into this remake with incredibly low expectations; I expected any attempt at a remake to be disappointing. I came to the game thinking the bloober team would try to update the game too much and miss the odd choices that made the first game so amazing. I was wrong. This is a fantastic game. To be clear, I love the original SH2. I've played it many times over my life. I believe the average completion time is 17hrs. PROS - The acting is amazing, which is a low bar from the awkward voice acting in the original. It was "charming" then, but the acting in the remake is so so good. - There's added gameplay that encourages exploration of the town. Plus 2 additional endings. - Plenty of Easter Eggs for old fans, without being so distracting that new players feel left out. - Music is still great and leans heavily on the original. - The environments are genuinely creepy. The whole Historical Society section (Toluca Prison + Labyrinth) is just amazing. - New scenes and added cutscene content gave us more character and story development while still being faithful to the original. CONS - Combat is awkward. The loose camera can make it difficult to locate the enemy you're fighting. You can make the argument that this assists in presenting James as an awkward guy who just isn't good at combat. If you like the original or have always wanted to play it but never got the chance, this is very much worth your time. Every survival horror fan needs this game.

Un must play
Consigliatissimo.

Silently Underrated
This is a remake of one of the best games of all time, and it holds up pretty well. If you're into this genre at all then it is an easy recommendation.

Vine a asustarme y terminé deprimido. xd
