Celtic Wheel of the Year: Celtic and Christian Seasonal Prayers

Beautiful, poetic meditations and prayers for daily use.
I was looking for a book of prayers when I came across this and the poetic way in which it was written touched my heart. In fact it was so beautifully written that it made me cry. I love the fusion of Christian and Celtic spirituality and the way God is seen in many aspects, as abstract and personal, female and male, as a spirit within nature and as something transcendent. There are prayers for praising, blessing, protection and thanksgiving and reflective meditations suited to the season and time of day. This is a mystical book, not a dogmatic one, which would suit any one with a love of the natural world wishing to deepen their relationship with a loving creator God/dess.

In need of Copy-Editing
While the book is good, and has some interesting insights and history to the various seasons and holidays, the reason I've given it three (generous) stars is that it needs serious editing; nearly every entry has mistakes - whether a missing comma that confuses the daylights out of a sentence, or such convoluted wording that the reader has to stop and re-read the thing four or five times to figure out what was actually intended. Poetic writing is one thing; confusion is an entirely different matter.I don't like to be so harsh with this book as I really do like it, but the poor copy-editing drives me batty. Also, while her general goal seems to have been to write a book to support Christian devotions, some of her entries go so far off whack with druidism and esoteric rhetoric that it seems to miss the boat on both shores.

which may be good or bad depending on your view
I am enjoying this book and dipping into it each month. Each month begins with an overview of the festivals and features of the month, before providing daily prayers for each day of the week. I'm enjoying the way she manages to incorporate the seasons and underlying themes into the words. The downside is that she sometimes drifts away from Christian orthodoxy to the edge, which may be good or bad depending on your view, so whilst I've enjoyed most so far there a couple where I have decided to give a miss.

This was brought for my Husband and he was thrilled with it as it follows on from a book we brought on Lindisfarne in October last year

Could be helpful to some people
I didn't find this book interesting or sufficiently focused on Celtic spirituality, too much 'new age' for me

Nice but . . .
Good articles, well written and easy to read, although perhaps a little condescending: I am older than 7. Also a lot of unnecessary and confused explanation about the movable feasts like Easter, otherwise it would have been 5 stars. A beginner's book, really, if you're a beginner to the whole concept of the Gregorian calendar. But on the whole I enjoyed it.
