Shopready Aluminum Replacement Rear Snap Latch Waterproof Housing Lock for GoPro Hero 3+, Hero 3 Plus, Hero 4 Camera - Black

After the latch on my GoPro 3+ case cracked after just a few uses (not cool GoPro, not cool; the product was always handled gently), I searched for a replacement option and came upon this latch. The piece is machined from aluminum and anodized a nice dark black. A small clamp and screw comes with it as well to secure this latch to the GoPro's hinge loop on the case. To install it, you'll have to snap the old latch off and then carefully screw the clamp on while positioning the loop properly in the new latch.Firmly snug the screw, its small so you don't want to chance stripping out the screw. Once its on, the latch operates easily like the factory latch. The only issue I noticed was the case halves didn't seem to close completely, there was a hair of a gap. This might be a problem for those who get the case wet. You might be able to squeeze the loop to help get the tight seal back if necessary. The Aluminum Latch looks cool, works great and is a perfect reasonably priced replacement for those like me who cracked their factory latch.

The tiny screw holding in the hinge in place - Ok I can see how some people would object fiddling with it. HOwever, other than a highly precision machined metal part that precisely replicates the dimensions of the standard latch, you will not have a tight fit. The design of using the screwed down clip to hold the hinge in place seems to work well. I put a drop of threadlocker in the hole to ensure the screw doesn't fall out from use. Once installed, the latch closes my GoPro case tightly.BTW, I've had two GoPro cases fail on my at the latch. One is the compact case that came with the Hero 3. The other is the larger vented case. The two cases have different latch design yet both failed with a cracked latch. Screw GoPro for purposely designing these less than robust latches that force customers to spend more on additional cases.

I had the GoPro waterproof housing for a month or so before the plastic latch snapped. I was astounded at how utterly crappy the design was: everything depended on an extremely thin piece of plastic. That experience made me think twice about being loyal to "official" GoPro products. I mean... this is a very obvious weak point in the design.This aluminum version is the answer to that flaw. It's awesome. It's actually connected with a screw, made of actual metal. Genius, right? Anyway, it's been great so far. Just be aware that this item comes with an extremely tiny screw and installing it is a very delicate operation that required three hands - I had a second person hold it while I fastened it. Once it was installed, however, I had what appears to be a sturdy solution to GoPro's design flaw.Also, it's aluminum, which presumably means it won't rust in salt water. Haven't tested that part out yet, however.

Fantastic!! I always break the oem plastic ones that come with the GoPro housing and this fixes all my problems. Seems like the seal shuts more firm and is tighter. You need to have a very small screw driver in order to install it. Maybe they should include that with the clip because some people may not have that availableUPDATE:It's been a few months and it still works great however I've been scuba diving and the metal screw is corroding and rusting. It's not stainless steel which is a minus for me. It still works but I'm sure the little screw will break off but time will tell

So this wasn’t a bling purchase or because I wanted this. I had the original OE latch split on me. The original one is simple to remove, and I suggest watching a video if you’re not sure how. There’s a screw on the new aluminum unit, that how it attaches to the hinge. I threw a dot of blue loctite on the screw for good measure. I’m more than satisfied with this product. It’s cheap, it’s quality, and if you get the black one it looks like it came on the camera.

I love that this replacement latch is aluminum. It is strong and I cannot see it breaking. The original one that comes with the GoPro is plastic and eventually cracks with repeated use, (like mine did) and no longer becomes waterproof. This latch will give you peace of mind for sure. Some reviews talk about the little screw that you have to tighten to keep it attached to the GoPro housing coming loose, but I tightened mine and it hasn't come loose yet... If it does come loose I will tighten it again, no big deal. Worth the money.

I bought this replacement latch when the original one broke. This fits the camera shell well and seems to do the job. I haven't gone underwater yet so I don't know how well this maintains the waterproof seal.Looks similar to the original gopro latch, but it's colder to the touch. There is a few paint scratches on the corners, I hope the paint won't come off with use.
