The Songs of Michael Flanders and Donald Swann

Reliably hilarious.
I wasn't disappointed by the collection, which houses all the old favourites. I have been singing these for fifty years and it's great to have my own copy at last! Thank you.

Wonderful, very playable. My winter is now set!
I was a little worried buying these, knowing what an exceptional pianist Donald Swann was, that I simply would not be able to play them. I am a mediocre pianist. I need not have worried; they have been suitably simplified. There's quite a lot in E flat, which is not a usual pianist's choice, but I did manage the Hippopotamus song at a reasonable sight-reading with a bit of hesitation, which is in G. With a bit of practice I'll be up and running with some of the others, then the family will be forced to sing along and we'll all make it through to the end of this stay-at-home mandate, possibly. I also discovered a new one to me: 'twice shy'. The most fantastic lyrics: 'Her private life is a public mess; and she's written a book called 'I confess'; and she looks so sweet in her topless dress; but underneath she's shy'. Just can't get any better than that. My antidote to life, really.

Quite unique
I first heard Flanders and Swann when they first performed Mud Mud Glorious Mud at the Summer School at Dartington Hall in about 1952

Unique collection - pleasant to play
Nicely presented collection of Flanders and Swann's works - I can't find them anywhere else, nor as electronic download, so please to find them here. Full lyrics included. No chords (hence one star removed), which isn't wholly surprising as they quite happily mix many unusual ones. Clearly this is a good representation of the original piano music first and foremost, and is very pleasant to play as a result - it's not a bad transcription of guitar chords and melody as is so often the case with more modern popular music. I'd probably class it as intermediate rather than beginner for difficulty.

Wouldn't be without it
No lover of Flanders and Swann should be without it. I bought mine years ago and have just purchased this one for my partners' brother. He's delighted !
