Works on new 2019 iMAC, too!
This is the perfect accessory for those with the need of connecting USB 2/3 devices or USB-C Devices to their 2019 iMac. In my case, I use several SD cards in all kinds of speeds and flavors - including microSD. I also use many different USB thumb drives which makes this handy and good looking device a perfect accessory for my needs. It "attaches" in the "ducts" along the bottom edge of your iMac. Installation is simple - but you MUST understand the concept. The unit easily fits within the palm of your hand - to give you a perspective. Four USB ports, a standard SD and a microSD port and a single USB-C port are on either side of the the USB ports. There is a "wheel" on the back or rear of the unit that controls two of the four plastic "tabs" that will hold the hub in place. Make certain that all four tabs are "in line", then, place the tabs "inside" the "ducts" of the iMac (to make this easier, you might want to lay the iMac down - on a towel or other soft, protective surface). Because the short USB-C cable attached to the hub is designed to fit directly into one of the two iMac Thunderbolt (USB-C) ports, installation of the hub will be nearest to those two ports. Once you have placed the tabs within the "ducts" of the iMac, firmly hold the hub in place as you turn the black wheel on the rear of the hub which will move two of the four tabs inside the "duct" until they have tightened the hub securely in place. Finger tight is all you need, plus a tiny bit of a nudge - but be careful to avoid over-tightening. The pictures of the product on Amazon are excellent examples of how nice this accessory looks. All of the ports worked perfectly. It is NOT self-powered but I've had no problem loading multiple USB devices and SD cards. There is a very dim grey/white indicator light between the fourth USB port and the USB-C port that lets you know the unit is powered. It is not anywhere within your view of the iMac. One note - as with most USB-C/Thunderbolt ports, make sure you FIRMLY seat the USB-C/Thunderbolt adapter into the iMac port! My first attempt "felt" like I had plugged in the cable but it required an extra "uuumph" before I heard and and felt the adapter actually "plug" into the iMac ports. This was true on both of the Thunderbolt ports on my iMac. Regardless, this is an excellent accessory that may make using your Mac a bit more enjoyable.

A great accessory that matches your iMacs finish and makes accessing your iMac so much easier......
Wow! ...got this for my new 2019 iMac 27....I moved from a 21.5” older iMac and was so tired of having to access the ports in back...Apple did that to make the front look prettier, but, it is a real pain if you use the ports often. Full power from one of the available usb-c ports in back powers this and although I have not tested the volts and amps on this hub, nothing I've plugged in to it has had a single issue. My peripherals included external hard drives, a portable dvd drive, a XQD card reader, and more just work perfectly through the hub. It fits securely using the vents under the iMac screen and you can choose what position you want it anywhere along the bottom. Attaching takes a a bit of wiggle as you tension the rubber feet that expand apart to hold it in place, but, once it is secure (do not be afraid to screw it tight so it won’t budge) it stays in place perfectly. Now the sweetest feature about this hub; it has a tiny low intensity led on its face which allows you to know your system was just turned on, or if it is in sleep, you’ll be aware in case you want to shut it down for the night. Why Apple decided to eliminate a status/power light on the IMac is beyond me, but, this hub brings that feature back. AWESOME! The brushed aluminum finish looks exactly like my iMac exterior. Perfect match. I have not found a thing to complain about for this hub. For me, it is a perfect inexpensive add-on that most iMac users will enjoy using and benefit from. 5 stars all around!

Overall a good product but somewhat disappointed
This works good enough to keep. It looks clean and saves me the frustration of trying to turn the computer and use those very stiff inputs on the back of the iMac - for that I'm keeping it. The micro SD slot does not work! I returned the first hub hoping it was a defect, but alas the second one's micro slot doesn't work either. It's ok I guess because the regular SD slot works and I still have my adapter, but it's a little frustrating/disappointing for how expensive this is. I think it is expensive for a USB hub - but it's for Mac - so that's what we come to expect Overall I'm happy with the purchase, just not thrilled, especially with the price. But if it saves me a minute or two of frustration every time I have to plug in a USB drive, then I guess it's worth it.

Wish I Would Have Known About This Earlier
Pros: Looks like it was meant to be on the iMac from the factory; USB-C connection; decently fast speeds; can run external hard drive Cons: SD card slot a little shallow for my preference (I also feel like the card should go further in the slot). Can be a bit tricky to install solidly. Really, these are pretty nit picky. There's a reason why I gave it 5 stars. I've used an iMac daily for close to a decade. Doing a lot of work with cameras, camcorders, external hard drives, etc..., I can't count the number times I've used the annoying rear ports of an iMac wishing it had front facing ports. With this (relatively) small purchase, I no longer have to do the blind grope. I was just walking to my office with a card in my hand thinking, "It's so nice to be able to slide the card right in the front without having to feel around." (I know, it's a small thing.) As to the quality of this particular solution, I'm pretty impressed. The color matches my silver iMac spot on. I really like that it uses USB-C as it provides enough power to run a hard drive (if needed). I haven't tested the speeds on the card readers, but I haven't noticed a massive increase in import times (importing 15gb+ of data). As some commented, the initial install took me a minute to get it completely secure. But, it feels pretty solid now.

I found it everything I expected...
Working from a smaller desk at home, meant that I did not have much space to turn the IMac as often as I do at my work work desk. So I ordered this USB hub to make the ports easier to access, especially the SD card reader. Reading the past reviews, I was anticipating that I might have some problems with this item. I'm happy to report that I didn't. It lined up perfectly with my iMac (no gap) and the mounting is quite secure. The SD card reader is not as deep as the reader in the back of the iMac, that took a couple of tiimes to get used to, but I like the Satechi reader better actually. Easier to line up the SD card to have it read. And while it is true that sometimes you have to hold the monitor while plugging something in, that seems a small price to pay for having the ports in a more accessible location. Definitely a keeper for me, and quite stylish with its perfectly matched finish. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

Good accessory
It is the first hub that allows me to connect several hard drives without them having intermittents. Excellent purchase.

Good value for style even with no power throughput
I bought this not realizing it did not have any power throughput. I wanted the ports on my iMac to be more convenient and also charge my mouse, keyboard and iPad too. When I plugged it in, I received an error so I unplugged it and contacted Satechi, who volunteered to replace it. I shopped around some more and found several hubs I liked, particularly their Aluminum Port Adapter V2 and the HooToo 6 in 1 hub. So before returning it, I plugged it in again and it worked fine. I decided it was probably just a fluke that it had an issue initially. The more I looked at it attached to the iMac, the more I liked it. I also noticed that we did have a neat little Aduro 6 Port USB Charging Station with Power Delivery and USB-C sitting between the Macs on the next desk and my device cords would reach over there for charging too. So for another ten bucks, I could have another if I thought necessary. I let Satechi know I would keep it, unless they thought it should be replaced. After reading the reviews about how difficult plugging drives in may be, I tested all the drives and they work fine and not overly difficult. The other thing I wanted to mention is that I have read some have had difficulty installing it. At first, I did, but then realized I was doing it incorrectly. All 4 of the black pads go on the INSIDE of the vent, then you turn the knob and they expand, holding it in place. Seems pretty secure. So for whoever said I would scratch the iMac, they were installing it incorrectly. It should not be touching the front or back of the iMac. So, I am happy with it so far.

A must-have for iMac!
First off: Dear Apple, you would be doing yourself a huge favor if you would just integrate this into the iMac to begin with. However, you won't because you often prioritize form over function. That being said... This does exactly what it's advertised to do. It was slightly harder than I thought to get it installed. Not because it didn't fit right, but because the knob that tightens it in place was harder to turn than expected. Aside from that, install was a snap. All ports work as expected. However, don't expect to charge your iPad from the USB ports. Not enough power is supplied. Apple Watch, iPhone, AirPods; the ports will charge those. The only real hang-up I have about it is not even Satechi's fault. The hinge on the iMac is great at holding the display in place, but the slightest touch will move it out of position. The micro SD slot, USB ports and lightning port require a bit of force to insert your card/cable, which means you have to hold your iMac steady as you insert them. It's just the nature of the beast with this combination, so it's not really a "con". Just something to keep in mind. Until Apple integrates something like this into the iMac, I'll continue to have this attached or purchase upgraded versions down the road. It's indispensable in my opinion.

Color matches 100%, installs very easily, iMac tilts when inserting a device
the design of this adapter is great, it does have a simple way to mount it on without damaging your iMac at all, it does have good amount of inputs, I do wish if it had 3.5mm jack as well which would make this adapter perfect. My only consern about this adapter which is not the fault of the adapter but just the nature on how iMac works, when you do insert a device in it will tilt back, so you either have to adjust it after or hold the iMac while inserting a device in. Overall, great adapter to decluter your table and bring some of the most used ports from the back of the iMac to the front of it.
