Sonic the Hedgehog: The Complete Series

a great cult series
I was never the biggest Sonic fan but I loved the classic 2D games before the Dreamcast era. One thing I love about this series is that it has a darker, more dramatic tone compared to what you would see with modern Sonic stories. This series also has a lot of great characters that you don't see in the games. It's a shame that this got canceled and ended on a cliffhanger, because they could have developed the characters and the story into something incredible. The series still has its flaws, and a couple episodes have questionable plotholes, but overall this is a fun show to watch especially if you're a fan of classic Sonic.

"Way Past Cool"
I have been a fan of the Sonic The Hedgehog animated series fan for a very long time since it came out 1993. Or Sonic Satam for short for all the Sonic fans out there. I still got the Shout! Factory DVD set that I am keeping safe for a very long time. So it does not hurt to have a spare DVD set that contains all the episodes that was made many years ago. DVD's ok, no scratches and no damage what so ever. So I am happy to add this to my collection and show it to the next generation of Sonic fans out there. So if you are a fan of the show as a kid, I really recommend you add this to your collection and enjoy a Blast from the Past of your childhood ^^

A Sonic Cartoon Gem that Holds Up Well
Finally, we get the full collection of the ABC run series from 1993. This one was the "darker" Sonic where Jim Cummings played Eggman like a Robotnik devil and Sonic and his Freedom Fighters try to thwart his mechanical plans on an already conquered, dystopian Planet Mobius. This series was a stark contrast to the goofy, slapstick syndicated "Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog" that premiered two weeks earlier in 1993. ABC's emotionally-heavier Sonic introduced new characters like Princess Sally Acorn, Antoine, Bunny and even Sonic's roboticized Uncle where the stakes were higher, the battles more action-packed while dealing with lose, sacrifice and even love. These are not the happy, go-lucky Sonic and Tails tales from the syndicated version.First off, the discs play great. Decent picture with no skipping or graphical issues so far. The sound is pretty nice and optional English Subtitles are present - which is very welcome to see all of the dialogue.Featuring the voice talents of Jaleel White, Katie Soucie, Rob Paulsen, Christine Cavanaugh and of course the already mentioned Jim Cummings, you have an all-star cast that delivers some emotional work. This is a gem of a series that holds up very well today with its action and emotion; not just in the animation but the stories themselves. This is not comedic-based like Sonic Boom or Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog. Sonic and friends go on missions of sabotage and rescue while losing friends and family along the way. Each character has their own motivations and struggles that they deal with and Robotnik shows no mercy. It was pretty deep for a child's cartoon on Saturday mornings. If you are a fan of the show itself, the overall Sonic the Hedgehog series or just want to watch an emotional piece of 90's Saturday morning animation, then I highly recommend it.

Good, but has issues
Biggest issue is the shows are NOT in order. Other than that the picture quality is not up to par with the more expensive set from Shout Factory. Also there are zero bonus features other than subtitles for those who use them. At least the cover art and nice and it was under $10. The show is still as good as I remembered it as a kid. I recommend it for those who are on a budget or who want to watch the series.
