I am loving the WD MyCloud (2TB) so far as a replacement for my recently deceased LaCie CloudBox (3TB). After 3 years as what I thought was a reliable and well functioning NAS drive, the more expensive LaCie CloudBox (3TB model) up and died on me one day in November 2016. I am an advanced user and wanted to know more about what might be going on and if there was any possibility of data recovery (only ethernet connection on LaCie CloudBox). I opened up the device and found that the HDD inside was a Seagate Barracuda 3TB desktop drive and when I did a quick Google search, there were articles everywhere about how that particular model was prone to spontaneous hard drive death. Long story short, there was not going to be any cheap way (under $2500) to recover the data from the drive so I had to take my loses on that one and find a more reliable network attached storage drive.I did a lot of research before deciding on the WD MyCloud. When it comes to a NAS drive, I didn't want something advanced or expensive and I find that a lot of the options out there are multiple-bay docks and things I would never use. I was just looking for a simple network storage drive where I could create different storage partitions and remotely mount them to my MacBook Pro using the AFP protocol preferably. I also wanted to be able to dedicate a partition to Time Machine so that my MacBook Pro could do backups to my network storage drive in addition to the external thunderbolt drive I use for Time Machine backups. I looked at getting a Time Capsule, but you are unable to create and mount your own partitions for personal storage using a Time Capsule. From what I understand, it is to be used strictly for Time Machine backups, and that was no good for me! The LaCie CloudBox did exactly what I wanted, but I would never buy it again having the disk die on me after 3 years. The closest thing I could find to it with mid-level reviews was the WD MyCloud and I was hesitant because some of the reviews were not great. I decided to take my chances with it and so far, I am loving it and would recommend it over the LaCie CloudBox any day!I am a macOS and iOS user, so this review and information is coming from a perspective using those platforms. Using the WD MyCloud is so simple, installation was very easy and I haven't had any issues with it! Using the web-based dashboard, you can control everything about the MyCloud, including the number of shares you have, the names of them, who can access them, the number of users and much more. There is a setting for Time Machine to control how much space (GB) you want to allot to backups. There are many disk tools available for checking disk health and performing troubleshooting. The application for iOS is also great and allows you to sign in using your WD MyCloud account that the device is linked to, or if you are on the same network you can connect right to the device using your credentials. There is also a site (MyCloud Flie Browser) that you can use while away from your device that can access the content on your MyCloud (Read/Write access). The one thing the device is missing that it could definitely use is the Wake on LAN (WOL) function. This is something that the LaCie CloudBox had and it was very useful when the device and hard drive had gone into deep sleep and you could longer access the files, you have the ability to remotely wake up the device right from your computer. With the MyCloud, you have to physically go to the device and unplug it and plug it back in, or change the settings for it to not go into sleep mode.In conclusion, as long as this device continues to function and does not have hard drive failure a few years in, then I would highly recommend it. The WD MyCloud also has a USB port in addition to the ethernet port, unlike the LaCie CloudBox. This allows for easy backup of the MyCloud to an external device and also allows for piggy backing of another hard drive onto the MyCloud and the partitions from that drive can also be made to mount remotely! There are so many options available with this device, it is hard to go over all of them. I suggest anyone looking for a simple NAS give the WD MyCloud a try!

WD my cloud is a very nice network storage, and it is very easy to setup for remote access and or local. You can't connect it to your computer via USB, you have to use the ethernet port and connect it to your router and set it up from there, again very easy!I was tired to pay for cloud storage that's why i decided to invest on this unit and i am glad i did.I recommend you download right away the WD app for your mobile device, that makes easy to create and manage folders and files, also if you go thru the options you can actually setup your device to automatically upload photos into a particular folder as soon as your phone connects to the same network as the hard drive.The My Cloud probably has one of the best web-based configuration interfaces I've seen. once all is connecter just visit wdmycloud.local and from there you can setup users, folders backups and so forth. No need of an ip address and such.As there is no installation software for PC, Mac or Smart TV, you can right away access to it. I like to be able to access to video clips i made with my phone or camera and display them on my smart tv via DLNA server.You can setup the drive so it will restrict access by user, including hiding folders from those who do not have access and assigning read only access to certain users.Remote access works well. When using the drive when away from the local network special software will need to be installed on a Mac or PC to access files. Opening files through the software will copy the file to the local computer for editing. Once saved the file will then sync back to the My Cloud drive.Another great feature is the onboard USB port for connecting external hard drives And the best thing is that you can attach an external hard drive and setup backup of the device to it or expand storage.I recommend you setup the unit on a UPC unit in case the power goes away at least you`ll have it for a little longer also, it will prevent damages.Cons: the only thing so far that has happened to me once or twice is that the unit Sometimes slows down and needs to be restarted, in the last 5 months so i guess is not too bad.

Funciona bastante bien y cumple con lo prometido, facil instalacion. Envio super rapido. La unica pega del producto es la lentitud para transferir archivos grandes mediante wifi, pero fuera de eso todo perfecto.

Si deseas un dispositivo para centralizar toda tu información este es el ideal. Recuerda siempre tener un respaldo ya que este NAS es de solo una bahia por lo que requieres una copia adicional para tener tus datos protegidos al 100. Puedes respaldar a otro MyCloud en tu red ( Single bay o superior ) o a un MyCloud en una ubicación remota ( Mirror o suprerior). Soporta gigabit ethernet probado directamente con cable, si usas wifi la velocidad baja ( no por el NAS sino por las limitaciones inherentes de las redes inalambricas ). Excelente NAS para iniciar a respaldar tu informacion o como dispositivo de almacenamiento compartido ( sin necesidad de un servidor dedicado ).

Once you get one of these, you wonder what you did without it!Seriously, I've been missing out on Network Attached Storage benefits. I read all the articles, reviews, etc, and decided to get this one. I wanted something easy to set up and this seemed fit the bill. Well, there was nothing to it. The installation wizard takes care of everything technical behind-the-scenes and about all I had to do was give it a name.It shows up on my PC and Mac as another device or I can use the MyCloud software. I can access all my files via my iPhone or iPad or any other wireless device. WD provides free apps for all wireless and non-wireless devices.As far as speed, I have a ASUS gigabit router and even if I'm out of town, it's like the MyCloud is right next to me - even on 3G. When directly wired to the gigabit router with a gigabit laptop, I'm getting around 80MBytes/Sec (that's Bytes!). The main limitation is the speed of the sending and receiving disk drive.The reason I got the 2TB was because additional drives can be attached to its USB 3.0 port. I got a powered gigabit USB 3.0 hub and attached several drives to it and plugged it into the MyCloud USB3.0 port. I immediately expanded it to 6TB. I believe it will handle up to 18TB - certainly more than I'll ever need.I haven't set up all the other goodies like automatic backup and streaming. Currently, I convert videos to MP4 before I put them on the MyCloud so I can play them on my phones and pad. It is device dependent, i.e., I can play/stream anything from a PC because I have the software that is compatible. However, an iPhone mainly plays MP4. There's probably a way to stream other types of video on an iPhone but these are just my experiences and I'm still learning about streaming formats. My text documents, spreadsheets, PDFs, etc. all work on any device. So now if there's something I need to access when I'm away from home, it's readily available without having to carry external drives with me (which are easily forgotten). Nice.This is one of the better purchases I've made in the past couple of years. The WD MyCloud looks nice, it's quiet, efficient and above all, it's very useful.
