DEVILFISH recounts a time when numerous giant squid, or devilfish as they were first known, washed up on the shores of Newfoundland in great numbers and how those events contributed both to the science and the lore of quaint squid. It’s a story I simply didn’t know about before now, one which I didn’t expect to be so intrigued by.Don’t let the foldout of a giant squid in the middle of the book fool you into thinking DEVILFISH is a kids book. It's beautifully designed and illustrated (the physical book feels like a work of art), but the level of research that went into writing it and selecting the archive materials contained within its pages is world-class. I can’t recommend it enough.I learned about the book through a CBC documentary called, “Water Street Sea Monster,” on YouTube. Anyone who enjoyed the documentary will most likely enjoy this book too.
