These are the only summer roll wrappers that work without breaking.

Without a doubt, this was the worst product I have ever purchased here on Amazon. I got myself a good recipe for spring rolls and I decided (against my much better judgment) to purchase them here on Amazon. I’ve eaten many ‘spring rolls’ and ‘egg rolls’ in my lifetime, and the wrapping was always the same type of pastry for both SPRING rolls and EGG rolls. I got these wrappers in the mail, and I proceeded to make the filling – I had a great recipe for pork egg rolls. The filling taste-tested terrific. Then, I went to open the package of spring roll wrappers from my Amazon purchase. They were terrible! They are not the classic type of egg roll wrapper. Instructions said to place them in hot water for 5 seconds. I did that but they are not dough-type wrappers. They have the consistency of very delicate plastic bags. I had no choice; this was what I planned on serving as an appetizer. So, I followed the instructions and placed the filling in two ‘spring roll wrappers’, folded them started to cook them. They came out horrible. They tasted like a combination of plastic and cardboard put together. They were awful! My dinner (the appetizer portion, anyway) was a disaster and very embarrassing. I called Amazon as soon as I had the chance and got a refund. These are NOT classic egg roll or spring roll wrappers. They are nothing short of dreadful!

The rice paper wrappers are very good and consistent. I just run them quickly under lukewarm water on one side, reverse and repeat, shake off excess and then put them immediately on a plate. You don't need to place them in water. I like this shape better than the round. I place them with a corner facing me and use that corner to start the wrap. Then I fold in the left and right corners and roll the whole thing up - gives me a little more control than the round size. But you can also wrap them using the straight side to start. I have a new recipe for fried vietnamese summer rolls using this type of wrapper and I'm looking forward to trying it. I haven't been able to have egg rolls since going GF, so if this new recipe works I'll be one happy puppy :o} The description said 50 ct for the pkg, but there were only about 28 per pkg. I don't have any experience with another brand to compare. My thoughts, they are think enough to work with easily without tearing, but seem a little chewy. Maybe other brands are thinner and less chewy but more prone to tearing? Maybe I just didn't quite soak it long enough? Either way, I'm very happy.

I'm giving this 5 stars because it IS rice paper, and it DOES taste good. There is a learning curve, however, to using these without tearing them. My first batch was 14 (there were 26 wraps in the package) and I thought I'd bake some spring rolls. I think I had splits in about half of them. My 2nd batch went a little better, with only about 1/3 with tears. I know I can perfect this with time and patience, and these are a really good price, so I won't feel bad about playing with my food! :)

These rice paper wrappers were great! I cut them in half’s and made Salmon Jalapeño Poppers wrapped in rice paper. They came out great! I’d definitely recommend these.
