Great 8-string for the money
First, I wouldn't recommend this for beginners learning guitar for the first time. However, if you want to graduate from a 7-string guitar, then this is a good start.I did a lot of research on 8-string guitars and wanted to start with something that had quality and at an inexpensive price. I'm please to have made my choice on this guitar. This Ibanez 8-string is a really great guitar and a really great price. I read a lot of reviews and a lot of them stated that there was some setup needed when they received their guitars. This seems to be the case on the one I bought. However, it's a small tweak. The 8th string buzzes around 12th through 15th frets. Other than that, all of the other strings seem fine, the intonation is perfect, and the neck is straight. For the 8th string, I only needed to raise the bridge saddle for that string only slightly. The guitar sounds great, plays great, and surprisingly light weight. If you're looking for an inexpensive 8-string that's not made in China, then look no further. This is a great guitar.

Wow what a value!
I was shocked at the quality of this instrument. I was expecting it to feel cheaply made, have bad electronics, an iffy paint job, etc. etc. However, if I were to have picked up the guitar at say a music store without knowing anything about it, I would have thought it was a $700 guitar easy! The neck is a comfortable scale, although I have noticed the inside of my left (fingering) wrist in that pocket by my thumb tends to get strained easily, especially if I don't warm up or stretch before playing. That seems to be an issue with all 8 string guitars tho, as I've played others now, and a friend of mine with a Carvin has the same problem. The stock pickups are totally decent as well, with the bridge p/u having the most grainy/bitey level, the middle position takes away a bit of that gain but adds a bit of punch to it, and the neck position has the highs rolled off that makes bass lines fun to play. The paint job is flawless, tho I wish the headstock would have been match painted with the body...I'm going to have to do that myself. It has a good weight to it, it feels substantial but pretty well balanced. Machine heads turn with the right amount of variance though a locking nut would be something I'd want to have installed at a later point. I've noticed it's pretty susceptible to temperature/humidity changes but that's not really a huge deal I guess. All in all I'm so happy I picked the RG8, it's my new baby, my Fender Jagstang, and Gibson Original SG Robot are jealous and collecting dust.

Solid 8 string guitar
Solid 8 string. The foundation is workable. A professional setup and upgraded pickups will make this thing awesome.I bought this RG8 specifically to strip, paint and modify. I played it as received for a few weeks. The electronics and tuners are very low quality. As expected in this price range. The bridge is ok.

Love this guitar!
I have played an Ibanez RG seven string guitar for many years and other six string Ibanez models too. I actually played other eight string guitars and though they sounded good I did not like the necks. My problem with other brands I do not like super thick necks, and Ibanez has nailed it perfectly for the eight string RG. The Ibanez eight string guitar sounds great, and easy for me to play the only difference is one extra string and slightly wider neck. All eight strings are reachable for me to play. I tested out the tone and the pickups are wonderful. I play a lot of different music and I tested out some jazz, rock, and metal today. The guitar has bite to it when hitting the low end which I love.Again, it is a excellent go to guitar for any music genre, and the price you cannot beat. Anyone who decides to go from a six string guitar to an eight string may have an issue with the wider neck so you may want to try out a seven string first and see if you like it. If you play a seven string guitar the transition should be pretty easy, at least it was for me. Awesome guitar!!!

Great 8 string in general, only a few gripes
Great 8 string guitar for the price, it required a bit of setup when it arrived (truss rod adjustment, intonation, action, etc.) but otherwise, this guitar is great even for experienced 8 string players, as it can be easily modified with new pickups or anything of the sort as time goes on. Only real problem I had using it is that the nut came loose over time, but it’s easy to fix. Great guitar overall. I definitely recommend this if you want an 8 string, but don’t want to spend a ton of money on one, but you have the option to make it better as you desire.

It's alright
Not the best sounding guitar in the world. I just bought it because I wanted an 8 string to mess around with and experiment with.If you're serious about 8 string don't get this guitar. It sounds mediocre, sound is kind of muddy and hollow. I don't know if it's the strings or the pickups or what, or the scale length is too small for an 8 string, but it's just not a very rich sound. However if you're just getting into 8 string to practice, experiment, branch out, then yeah, you can't beat the price. Build quality is good enough and it's comfortable to play.

Great guitar and music store!
Shipping was a week early!!! Plays great, and the neck is very straight. Great action and intonation. VERY pleased with this company. I'll be doing more business with them in the future. A side note for guitarists; A Schecter Omen 8 is ok, but the heel has too much bulk. Get THIS! Also, that wizard neck!!
