awesome stuff!
Love this ointment for our daughter. It's the best ointment we've used - works great for her dry irritated skin. Also, we've been using this for all 2 yeas of her life & I just went on Amazon to buy more when I read someone claiming the castor oil in it basically meant this ointment was contaminated with ricin, which is extremely dangerous & can be deadly - I freaked out & just did a bunch of research. Seems to be a very false claim. Yes, it contains castor oil, but, no, there's no ricin. Here's a quote from our government website: "Castor oil does not contain ricin because ricin does not partition into the oil."

Petroleum free Blessing
I've been looking for a petroleum free baby ointment for months and finally found the perfect product for my baby. This ointment is thick, so it creates a barrier for skin to heal and stay soft. I've used it as diaper cream on my baby, and on myself for chapped lips, dry heels, cracked skin, dry hands and cuticles. My skin is sensitive to petroleum products so this worked out well. The product is on the sticky side but it does go away after a while. My baby's bottom was getting rough from our regular diaper ointment so I use this as an alternative.

Ok product
I purchased this product hoping that it would help with my daughter's eczema.I like the fact that this product uses natural ingredients but after trying it, I would rather prefer Aquaphor. It feels too thick and sticky when applying to my daughter's skin.

Clean and simple ointment.
Makes a great barrier cream for diapers and moisture on baby’s skin. Very simple, no smells or colors added. The tub can be a little messy and a different t way to contain would be better but overall happy with this ointment.

Great product!
I am in love with this diaper rash protective ointment - it works like a charm. I put it on my babies when they have a diaper rash and it helps to keep their skin clean and dry which aides the healing process. I can put it on overnight and the next day the rash is basically gone. Only draw back to the ointment in this container is dipping your fingers in to get the product out can get messy and the ointment is hard to wash off, even with soap.

Smells strange and doesn’t help skin
Both of my twins get reddened skin each time I use this on them. It doesn’t help any irritation they may have. Actually I’d say it made t worse each time I used it. I threw it away after a few times

Beware, this product is composed largely of castor seed oil, the source of the notorious toxin called "ricin"
I have been avoiding any use of petroleum jelly (petrolatum), ever since I learned it can contain carcinogenic aromatic hydrocarbons, if they are not distilled out. BabyGanics ointment is an "all natural" alternative to petroleum jelly, but without the petroleum toxins. The first two ingredients listed in the ingredients of BabyGanics Protective Ointment are "castor seed oil" and "hydrogenated castor oil". Wikipedia states "All parts of the [castor] plants are toxic, but most dangerous are the seeds...The principal toxin of castor bean is ricin, which...may comprise up to 3% of the seed weight..." and that ricin is a nerve toxin, which can be fatal in even small amounts. Petrolatum and this "all-natural" alternative product both seem to me to be potentially too risky to use.Update: Ricin is so toxic that production of castor oil for human use relies both on the water-solubility of ricin, and on the fact that ricin is denatured by heat. No substance is infinitely water-soluble and zero oil-soluble. Solubility is measured by the "partition coefficient", the ratio by which the solute dissolves in water versus oil when the aqueous solution is shaken with the oil. Some trace of ricin will be found in oil which is cold-pressed from castor beans, especially if there is any alcohol present, since castor oil and water both mix with alcohol. Aqueous ricin solution must be boiled for 10 minutes before the ricin is denatured.Summary: If any alcohol contaminates the production process, and if the castor oil is not heated sufficiently, trace amounts of ricin could persist in the castor oil. How much ricin is needed to kill a person or cause nerve damage? Trace amounts. I am not willing to take that chance.Reference: Barnes DJ, Degradation of ricin in castor seed meal by temperature and chemical treatment, Industrial Crops and Products 3/2009; 29(2):509-515.

this has been our favorite diaper cream so far
this has been our favorite diaper cream so far, and while I'm bummed I cannot buy it in stores, I'm very glad I'm able to order through amazon. I don't like using petroleum products on my children (or me!) as the skin absorbs everything into the blood stream, and I'm happy to have found an alternative barrier ointment that works really well. This last container seems a bit grittier than the first tub, but it works just as well.
