Clever, funny, give it a try!
This is the funniest film I have seen for a long time. A Danish animated film from 2011 that I had never heard of, dubbed into English has an excess of wit, imagination and energy that seems to be lacking from Hollywood these days. The humour is basic and it is not for youngsters but older teens and adults who have not quite grown up will love it.It is a loose parody of Lord of the Rings but has lots of other elements thrown in the mix. Ronal is on a quest to rescue his Barbarian brothers accompanied by Alibert the Stoner bard, Zandra the feisty shield-maiden and Elric the metrosexual elfin guide who is hilarious while being pursued by the evil Volcazar who needs his Barbarian blood. The voice acting is spot on with only Bridgett Nielsen as the Amazon Queen being a name that I recognise but this adds to it rather than playing "spot the star". The animation is slick and fast moving and the whole film has a feel of quality and attention to detail. There are loads of sight gags both direct and in the background that are easy to miss on the first pass often around male genitalia so a broad mind helps but it is genuinely funny and there are far more hits than misses. On top of it all it is quite short at less than 1 hour 30 minutes and never flags all the way through. The trailer gives a feel but is about the dullest part of the movie but if it looks like your thing then give Ronal the Barbarian a try. I am willing to bet it is the funniest film you have never heard of!

Surprisingly funny, with excellent animation and some great sight gags
Surprisingly funny, with excellent animation and a reasonable storyline. Casting Brigitte Nielsen as the Amazon Queen was inspired (in the original Danish language version - I think someone else did the English dub, if you look at the credits closely, but IMDB don't mention that), and some of the funniest scenes were at the Amazonian village. The soundtrack is very good and there are some great sight gags, too, but I won't spoil them for you apart from saying that you should watch out for one of the best where Ronal uses the invisibility potion at the elf castle... I loved the animations as the credits were rolling too!The only downside for me was that some of the characterisation didn't seem quite right - I found myself disliking Ronal more than I liked him, even though he was entertaining to watch; maybe he was slightly *too* weedy and geeky. And the bard was a bit irritating, too. But the shield maiden character was well done and Elric the elf was a very funny parody of other filmic elves, especially Legolas from the LoTR and The Hobbit ;-)It's well worth watching if you're in the mood for some silliness and a slightly different take on heroic adventures...

It's not Disney...and thank you Denmark for that!!
I came across this animated film by accident looking for some fighting fantasy D 'n' D type films. I am so glad I did. Watched it and couldn't stop laughing. The dialogue and script is slick and certainly not Disney! Plenty of visual gags also. Not one for the children but older teenagers and nerds like me. No spoilers just give it a go and watch the credits as well...awesome!! One of those hidden gems. 5 star animation from Denmark! Nice one.

rude but wonderful
This is great fun but definitely not for the kids. The gags are frequently , shall we say , anatomical and suggestive with a spoof of Bohemian Rhapsody for the final credits. but utterly hilarious. but it is also spectacular and romantic. I'm not a fan of animation but this is a no miss film this the perfect storm .

Funnily enough it's so unfunny it's not even funnily not funny
I am baffled by the good reviews. It's a good idea and the animation appears to have had money spent on it, but it is simply not funny.Maybe it's lost in translation (the English audio is obviously added on as their is no lip-synch). The voice acting is ok, but the jokes just fall flat.I like Family-guy, Archer, Naked-Gun style spoofs and the like, so swearing and bad puns are all good. But the swearing here feel like the 'writers' thought simply by adding profanity the film would be funny. Nope. The rest of the jokes feel like they came from 30years ago, or are at the level of 'fart-gags' which even then don't work. I definitely feel like the target audience - but I also feel badly missed!

Creepy eyes!
Okay, I can see how the puerile humour will appeal to lots of people. But the eyes? How can you watch a full length animation full of THOSE eyes?

A very funny and naughty adult animation
Just watched this and I haven't laughed so much for a long time. Just don't take it too seriously as it can be politically incorrect but welcome in a world where humour is rapidly becoming sterile and boring. Highly recommended!!
