Limited Edition - 2000 copies only! A set of 5 CDs, recorded live at Zigzag magazine's fifth anniversary concert, held at The Roundhouse on Sunday afternoon and evening, 28 April 1974, complete with a 32 page booklet celebrating the occasion. In 1974, Zigzag, the UK's first monthly rock magazine - much imitated but never surpassed - became five years old, and to celebrate this auspicious landmark the magazine's founders Pete Frame and John Tobler organised a concert at London's Roundhouse. And not just any old concert. T Not surprisingly it was a day of peerless music, which, thankfully, was all faithfully recorded. Stored away and largely forgotten for nigh on thirty-six years, those dusty and flaking tapes have now been unearthed and their sound quality transformed by a process akin to alchemy into nuggets of audio and artistic perfection. Zigzag magazine may no longer exist in the physical sense but, in the hearts and minds of anyone who is entranced and transported by this music, its spirit lives on... and, although equally dusty and increasingly flaky, we, the grateful guardians of that inextinguishable flame, are extremely chuffed to be able, at long last, to make these historic recordings available in a manner that befits their status.

Everything I hoped for ....but more
Found out about this product by accident. John Stewart is/was one of my favourite artists and to find him with Michael Nesmith and Starry Eyed and laughing was fantastic. The box set was signed, sealed and delivered on time and in mint condition. All albums play beautifully and the quality of this live recording is tremendous.

There was more than the music.
After several years of not buying this I decided to treat myself. I was at the concert (aged 21) and had some great memories etched into my young and impressionable mind. Most of all I remembered that Mike Nesmith treated us to a whole bunch of stories between the songs. And to hear them again was the main reason I bought it. And where are they? What a disappointment. Sure we get Mike the singer/songwriter but where's Mike the raconteur. There were certain people back then you went to see for the natter as much as the music - eg Roy Harper for another. So three stars for the music is really 5 stars but 2 down for the disappointment. Or am I suffering from false memory syndrome?

Wonderful set - what a shame the Kilburns couldn't make it on the day, though!
I bought this for the Help Yourself, Chilli Willi and Mike Nesmith CDs but the overall shocker was Starry Eyed & Laughing - what a stonkingly good live group they were! Overall, lovely, but what a shame that Kilburn & the High Roads pulled out of the concert - some 1974 live Ian Dury wold have been very welcome! Buy this set. You won't be disappointed, but check out the Road Goes On Forever website to buy direct from the record label rather than pay well over the odds on Amazon, like I did.

Amazing Archival Release
This 5 disc set captures the magic of what must have been an "amazing concert". Three english bands and two American singer songwriters, all playing in front of a supportive audience that push each act to exhibit their best. The highlights for me are the sets from Chili Willi and The Red Hot Peppers' which captures their live magic better than any other recording and Mike Nesmith which illustrates why his early solo / First National Band records are so under appreciated. The other bands soar in front of the appreciative audience. If you have any affinity for pub rock or 70s singer songwriters, this is a must. Plus, the packaging and booklet are exemplary.
