A Lego Game that Actually Works!
I love lego. I love board games. But the two together have not really worked well. This game is different. It is a little childish (essentially an advanced memory game), but it is also very fun, and there is strategy involved. The set is really great, with fun little details for each Hobbit hole. The rules of the game are simple, yet entertaining. (That being said, the rules could be written a little more clearly). And here's a suggestion: a lot of people want to play Gandalf as he is unique among the pieces. So make his player piece a reward for game set-up and winning.

Excellent game for kids!
I purchased this game to play with my 3- and 6-year-old daughters (plus, who doesn't love LEGO?). We had fun building it, but playing it was awesome! I have the Minotaurus LEGO game already, but this game is so much better. The instructions seem a bit daunting at first, but it's actually very simple once you get the hang of it. It's a "Memory"-style game and helps teach counting as well, since you have to move your piece around the board to where you want to look at a tile. My girls loved playing and wanted to play again as soon as we were done with the first game!

Fun, Versatile Game
So excited to find this game. It arrived in good time and in good condition. Had all the pieces. My five year old son loves to play this game with me, although I let all the kids know it is MY game. I especially like the feature where you can roll the map and reconfigure the hobbit village. This game is perfect for Hobbit and Lego fans.

Fun family game.... but takes a while
I love legos and LOTR and Hobbit and got this game for Christmas. I assembled it with my mom and played it that night. The directions are kind of loose and it says you can make your own. So I did. I like this game but my family doesn't as much as I do. It's a little hard playing with one person.

Super Fun Game!! Not Just for Lego Lovers!
First you build it and then you play it. Great for kids and adults! The game board changes configuration as you play. The character playing pieces are Gandalf, a man and a dwarf. It is a really fun game, even if you haven't read the book or seen the movie "The Hobbit." Highly recommended by my 12-year-old son and 53-year-old husband (though they ARE Lord of the Rings freaks)! A good gift, for sure!

nice set but disappointed
I bought this game for my 8 yo daughter and 10 yo son, who love The Hobbit and legos. After reading all the reviews, I thought this might be a fun game they would enjoy. Several reviewers mentioned that it was fun for different ages.My kids enjoyed putting the set together- but the set is very small. It is a memory game, and the rules are a bit hazy, IMO.Basically, you roll the die and move your player around the board trying to land in the right spot to make matches. For us, it just wasn't that fun or interesting... maybe younger children who enjoy matching games would really like this.I was on the fence for a long time about buying this game, and I caught it in a price dip when it was around $25.I glad I didn't spend more on it. I wish I would have applied that money to a different lego set instead.

Did not like the game
My 7-year old daughter liked the Hobbit book and The Lord do the Rings movie. She also liked assembling the set. However she got bored with the game after 2 plays. We ended up selling the game off. Its a basic memory game, with a high degree of luck added in. I don't think they spent a lot of time on game design. If your family doesn't mind simple games such as Candyland and Memory, then you might like this set. However if your family likes to play children's games meant to appeal to both adults as well as kids (Amazing Labyrinth, Whoowasit, Viva Topo, Hey that's My Fish), then this will not impress you. We replaced this with the Hobbit playset, the Unexpected Gathering, which is much more better for free play, making up and acting out stories, after the set is complete.

Actually a fun game
I bought this as a gift for my son, who is into all things Lego. After having played it several times with him I can say it is a fast, easy game to play and lends itself to a lot of fun banter between players. An easy way to spend 30 minutes (or more) bonding with your child.
