Do it come with strap and hook?

Does it have the same bolt pattern as the 1400?

Thanks for your question. This DL2000A pulling winch is physically larger than the DL1402A, so their measurements (including their base hole patterns) are different. You can compare the dimensional drawing of the DL2000A (https://www.dutton-lainson.com/assets/pdf/drawings/DD_DL2000A.PDF) and the DL1402A (https://www.dutton-lainson.com/assets/pdf/drawings/DD_DL1402A.PDF) to see if either winch will work for you.

How do you change gear speeds?

There are two shafts that the inside gears are on. They protrude through the side of the winch and you can see them in the picture. You move the handle from one to the other to change speeds. Simple. Takes about 5 seconds maybe. I leave mine on the low speed because I don't actually feed out more than a foot or two of strap.

Has anybody flipped the crank and spool over to make it a left hand winch?

Flipping the parts around and assembling them on the opposite side of the winch base (essentially making it a "left hand winch") is not possible on this DL2000A pulling winch. If you would like the parts installed on the other side on a model similar to this one, you would have to order a left hand version of a DL1800A or DL2500A, or you could buy a standard DL1800A or DL2500A and switch the parts over yourself.
