Best version
The texture of the skin on the actors, the mud and rain in the action shots, this restoration is the best I've seen by far having watched all other possible prints on dvd and blu ray. It goes without saying that this film is a masterpiece and the audio to of top notch as you'd expect from BFI. Love the extras and poster in a very solid box with a hardback book. Wonderful

Deluxe Box set, booklet and Poster
I have not yet watch the film; but the BFI has issued a beautiful Deluxe Box set. If you are a collector you must add it soon to your collection before it's gone. I watched this film the first time when I was 13 years old and remember going to the movie theater twice the first week of it premiere. Through the years I have watched it in many occasions enjoying it as if I was watching it for the first time.

Product Quality Review and Customer Service FeedbackFirstly, I would give this movie 5 out of 5 stars. However, this review is mainly about the quality of the product. The back cover, which contains the descriptions such as the special features and a brief summary of the movie, has not been printed directly on the case. Instead, it has been printed on a separate piece of cardboard that has been stuck on the front and folded over, as you can see in the photos.Regarding the poster, I was expecting it to arrive in a poster tube. Instead, it came folded, with noticeable creases (please see photos). Speaking for myself, I would not mind paying a little more for the poster to arrive in a tube and be crease-free.FYI – For anyone from Amazon reading this, I spoke to one of your customer service team members on 19/11/2024 at 21:04, the last four digits ends of my order number ends with 0755 and the last three of my mob ends with 058. He was extremely helpful, very apologetic, and very patient. I hadn’t realized how much time I took up during the call or how many times I made him repeat the same answers to some of my inquiries. His customer service deserves to be mentioned in this review.

A perfect film
I first saw this decades ago - when the BBC still showed foreign films with subtitles. There are films so perfect that I don't want to watch them again. Then something reminded me of a scene from the film and I watched again recently. Such a good film. Like a Christmas pudding, a main theme filled with all sorts of other stories.I have watched Throne of Blood, Ran, and (one of my favourite films of all time) The Hidden Fortress.

Absolute masterpiece of Samurai cinema
Akira Kurosawa created a unique tale of heroism, self-sacrifice, honour, courage and fearlessness in the face of death. This is an epic film which inspired the likes of George Lucas and Steven Spielberg as well as many other renowned directors. The Magnificent Seven was a western directly based on Kurosawa's Seven Samurai.Samurai warriors were driven by a code, to fight, to live and to die for honour, in defence of the weak, or in service for the greater cause.Kurosawa's film is a great depiction of these classical Japanese values embodied in the characters of seven samurai or masterless samurai (also known as "ronin") who undertook defence of a village raided by a large group of heavily armed bandits. The film despite being black and white and dating back to 1954 is a true masterpiece of cinematography with some revolutionary filming techniques employed by the director and epic soundtrack composed by Fumio Hayasaka. The set was built entirely from scratch at Tagata on the Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka and so the film was not shot in the studio but in the real location for greater authenticity and better depiction of the story.Kurosawa spent a lot of effort in individual character development, presenting each of the samurai with all their virtues and vices, with certain degree of humour and comedy in doing so.There are also elements of a romance incorporated into the story although presented in a somewhat rudimentary fashion, the main emphasis being placed on battle imagery. The battle scenes were very well made considering the times the film was shot in. The key battle taking place in heavy rain, which added to dramaturgy of this epic tale culminating in the grand finale. The actors worth mentioning who distinguished themselves in the film are Toshiro Mifune, Takashi Shimura and Seiji Miyaguchi. In conclusion, if you're a lover of Japanese samurai cinema, this classic film by Kurosawa is an absolute must. I highly recommend it.
