Best flour ever
I used to buy this flour direct from the Mill itself, but they told me to get it through Amazon. On the subscribe and save system it is even better value. I have been making my own bread by hand for about 40 years and this is the best tasting flour I have ever used so I will continue to buy it this way.

This bread flour is by far my favourite. It is very fine and silky and has lovely nutty grains making soft and pliable dough

Lovely flour
Good quality flour. I miss their smoked granary bread flour, but this is rather lovely too. Does take a while to come, but is well worth the wait.

Very disappointing
I have been buying Bacheldre Watermill flour in bulk for a while now on behalf of a local bread-making circle and have been pleased with all my purchases, except for this one. As a malted blend, it falls far short of both genuine Rank Hovis Granary and Bacheldre's own Bacheldre Watermill Organic Stoneground Strong Oak Smoked Malted Blend Flour 16 kg. The mix is short on interesting bits, the colour is unappetising and the bread made is heavy and stodgy. ALL of the bakers in my circle were underwhelmed so it cannot be attributed to any one baker's failings, recipe or method.I have managed to rescue my share of the flour by lightening it with 50% of the Bacheldre Watermill Organic Stoneground Strong Unbleached White Flour 25 kg then incorporating extra malted wheat flakes, and some seeds, along with some Red Malt Flour. This home-made blend produced a tasty loaf indeed but I could have just mixed up my own blend from scratch to obtain those results. We shall not be purchasing the Malted Blend again.

As it uses only 1/4 tsp of yeast but still I get a good rise in the loaf
I have used this flour to make hundreds of loaves for daily use. I have developed a simple machine recipe that works very well for me. As it uses only 1/4 tsp of yeast but still I get a good rise in the loaf, I can't understand the problem with rising mentioned by another reviewer. I usually add about 20 gm of mixed seed, but this is just personal taste. I use the flour on its own, it is quite light enough without adding white.Recipe: 500 gm flour, 330 gm water,1 tbs olive oil,1 tsp toasted sesame oil, 2 tsp sea salt, 1 tbs molasses sugar.1/4 tsp quick yeastI usually put all the ingredients except for the yeast and flour in the bottom of container. The flour is poured on top and the yeast on top of that. his allows me to use a long delay setting which helps the texture of the bread by soaking the flour. Setting Medium loaf, wholewheat, wellbaked. Minor adjustments to the mix can easily be made and it can be made by hand using the same recipe. The oil is to improve the keeping quality. If you try this recipe for the first time, you might feel safer with 1/2 tsp quick yeast.

Disappointed
I bake bread every other day and have been using successfully Hovis Granary.I saw this flour, read the reviews and decided to buy it. I bought in bulk (16kg) and after I had weighed out the flour into 500 gms bags, I like one other lady, was so disappointed at the small amount of malted flakes added to the flour.I have decided to buy some malted flakes and add them to the flour along with some other grains to bring it up to the standard of Hovis Granary. The flour is good and makes a nice loaf and I like the taste, but can't really describe it as Granary flour. I shall stick to Hovis in future.Great pity.

Really good texture and taste. This is now my 'go to' flour.
