We picked this up as a fun project to do with the kids. We're working on having them write down a few of their favorite things like TV shows, hobbies, pets, family, etc and will also find maybe a few toys and other memorabilia to toss in there. At 4" wide you're a bit limited but the length at least is fairly long.Our family business works with a lot of stainless parts so I'm happy to see that it is made from 304 stainless. That should hold up well in most soils. If you're burying this in a salty area or one with very clay like soil, consider surrounding it with some sand to improve your odds. 304 does really well but clay soils have low resistivity, meaning they will corrode stainless faster. A simple bed of sand under and over it will sold that problem for a few bucks.The silicone gasket is relatively thick and allows you to get the end caps sealed very well. I'll probably go back over it with a bead of silicone or something but initial testing shows it doesn't let water in. You can test by sealing up one end and submerging it in water to make sure you've got a good seal. With the stainless able to handle the elements, the seal is part you'll want to focus on. Having 8 screws per end means you can get a very nice seal. For best results, tighten in a star pattern so you're not putting strain on any given side.Ultimately, it's a well thought out and designed time capsule that should fit a decent amount of things. There are plenty of resources on the web for ideas of what to put in your time capsule and what you should NOT put in. Pay special attention to the things that you do NOT want to include because if you introduce bacteria, etc it won't be pretty when it's dug up.

This is a really durable and well designed time capsule made out of thick, durable and super high polish stainless steel. It is waterproof and should preserve important family documents, photos and moments for decades. I like how securely the end caps tighten down and the bonus pair of white gloves so you can handle it and not leave fingerprints. It is pretty large and can hold a high volume of items. Overall a quality product.
