Short and sweet
Carson's pamphlet, "The Albertine Workout" is #13 in a series of New Directions Poetry Pamphlets. In comparison to Proust's approx. 4,200 pages, Carson's vivid dissection of the character Albertine takes a slim 38 pages. Written in Carson's unique, forensic style, one can never read one of her works without learning extraordinary things. It is not simply the words, it is the elegant arrangement of ideas which makes Carson such an exciting read!

Wonderful as ever
I loved Anne Carson's Red, Red Doc, Plainwater, and Glass Essay and this does not disappoint. She is so original, insightful, poignant and funny. I tell everyone to read her writing.

Bewildering book.
What is the purpose of a book that gives you a few random facts about one of its characters?

facinating
If you are familiar with her work and already like it, this is a great little chapbook to add to your collection. If you don't know her work, you might find it puzzling. She's looking at the character Albertine in Proust's work. What she finds is fascinating. Lots of fun if you like this sort of thing.

"Everything, indeed, is at least double." La prisonniere, pg 21, The Albertine Workout
Classic and impeccable command over the literary form and concept. A lower price on this 40pg poetry pamphlet would be welcome.
