I'd give this amazing bit of kit 7 stars for all the stuff it does but have to knock it back 2 stars to five as it doesn't cleanly do what I wanted with regards to its VPN features, which to be fair, aren't its fault. VPN works but if you're trying to get reliable access to country specific services like I was, then the VPN vendor's software is the way to go as things like BBC iPLayer get blocked quickly from IP adresses. Don't ge4t me wrong, the VPN can be easulit set up but just to one node at a time, which is a pain.Apart from that 5 stars. It's open source software works like a dream. Quick and easy to set up. I only got it to play with its VPN capabilities but actually, since our house got hit by lightning and ruined heaps of gear and we still haven't received any insurance payout, it has been running the whole house effortlessly since 1 Aug 2019 when I quickly rigged it up.It updated itself to the V3 firmware and afterwards, its 2 & 5Gig plus configurable guest modes have been invaluable. It only has two usable ports but I have a switch which allows it to wire up to various nearby machines plus wifi across the house.I'm sorry to hear about other folks' failures, but for me, this is just one amazing piece of kit. It runs cool and...just....works. No problems at all. I guess like most electronics, they either fail in the first two weeks or work for ages. It's that MTBF thing...It has an "Advanced" mode that is very congigurable and allows the installation of various open source plugins. I haven't tried any yet though. My picture shows its system state in the advanced section since a full reboot of my network yesterday.It's fully safe as far as I can tell. Steve Gibson's Shields Up passes with flying colours.

Great piece of kit.I use it for usb tethering my phone and connecting multiple devices via ethernet.I went for this because a 4G router capable of holding a sim was either too big for the space I have or didn't have features I need.I don't use the VPN, so keep this in mind regarding speeds. I get very good signal to the 4G mast, and I can get 110mbps down and 80mbps up with Ethernet. I've not used the wireless as I don't need it so I've disabled it.OpenWRT is great. There's a lot which can be done with this piece of kit.The UI is great; easy to navigate, clear & precise - even for a novice.The advanced page has a lot on it, which I've used a little for some things not on the standard settings, and the possibilities are endless.In case anyone reading is looking for more specific information - I have a 2 pc gaming / streaming set up. I get a pretty stable 50ms ping to game servers in NL and around 45ms to UK game servers.I have QoS enabled too, which really helps with bufferbloat - I'm able to achieve 'A' bufferbloat rating on DSL Report.As well as gaming I can stream to Twitch, Download, watch videos online (with QoS) at the same time and it doesn't freak out/ lag out. Though when I am streaming to Twitch my ping raises by about 4-5ms on average, which is just due to load.Anyway, highly recommend this. Happy I bought it.

Great little item I’d love to be able to get out to use it. Shame they don’t sell them any more.Simple to use and tight form factor.Would have given 5 stars but it allows you to extend it with extra features but the on board memory only had 3mb spare 🤨 #really

Bought this as a replacement for a Hootoo Tripmate Titan. The Hootoo interface is clunky in my opinion and I did have some issues with wireless speeds which a reboot sorted out. I just didnt like the hootoo interface that much. Did a bit of research and this was looking favorable due to the fact that it had 5ghz wireless. Not only that but the interface is better and there are hundreds of apps that can be installed if familiar with linux - these are entware and optware packages and therefore expand the use of this router considerably. Not looked at these specifically yet but an adblocker installed on this router would be one of the first things I would install. I did consider the POE version but thought there was no need for that as I wouldn't be using it at home anyway. The other option was the GL-AR300M which looks similar spec wise with external antennas which is a bonus but for me I though the 5gz wifi would be more beneficial than external antennas especially in a crowded 2.4ghz hotel space. So far very impressed but as yet not really tested thoroughly but so far the wifi speeds are able to cope and supply full 80Mbps at home no problem. Another bonus is the OpenVPN interface that is built in - so far no complaints. One downside is a lack of internal battery but Im overflowing with powerbanks anyway so that is easily overcome. Great device SO FAR!

Bought to replace a smaller AR300 I dropped and damaged, this is my second GLI net router and I just love them. The WiFi signal is great (this trip I could connect to mine in the hotel reception when my room was 3 stories above me!), the UI is neat and easy to use, and the ability to use a vpn profile means creating secure WiFi and access back home (mine to access UK TV via a well known type of TV stick) means this is a no brainer for the money. I've never had reliabilty issues, they just work. This AR750 is in a decent solid case, seems stronger than the older type square cases. You need to understand the networking concepts and what you need to do, but if you are not an networking 'noob' these allow you to do some really powerful thing. Highly recommended, nice work GLI net!
