2240 Spincast Closed Faced Thumb Cast Fishing Reel (pre-spooled with 8lb line on) [11-401]

A cracking little reel, easy to operate, and you can cast with one hand! I got this for just that reason.I'm disabled, and have very restricted use of one of my hands, this makes casting a dream!TM

not worth the money, the metal is flimsy, the drag doesn't work, and it's almost impossible to reel back in. Children tried it as a introduction to fishing makes me think I should have started them with spool reel. disappointed!!!!!

Have used once to practice casting but no fish caught as yet(although I have put load on it to test it's winding in capacity which appears to be ok), so these are my initial thoughts after inspection :Pros:Very lightweight & compactEasy to cast and wind inCheapVery easy to disassemble/reassemble for easy to maintanCons:Cheap construction and materialsBuild quality average at bestNot built to last long termPlastic arm and rod connection foot plasticThese are my honest opinions on initial use and inspection.Overall a reasonably decent reel considering this is an ultra cheap budget reel.Plastic materials feel cheap and the arm and foot that connect to the rod are plastic so feel a bit vulnerable and I suspect this will be a point of weakness, but time will tell.Unlike other reviewers I have had no issues with casting distance so far and am quite happy with this aspect.I like the fact that everything is enclosed and easy to open and maintain.Overall I am happy with the purchase. Don't expect a top quality reel, it is what it is; a cheaply made but still use able budget reel.Had the materials been of better quality then this would have added another star to my rating.As it is I am quite happy with the purchase to give me a good idea of how closed face spincast reels work without spending a lot of money.If I decide I like the concept then I will invest in a better quality reel.But initially the bottom line is that it is a half decent budget reel that is exceptionally easy to use and casting is a cinch.Just don't expect it to be a top quality reel because it is not, and to be fair to fladen doesn't claim or pretend to be.

Bought this for my nephew who's 9 and a beginner, I know nothing about fishing either.We got into all kinds of tangles with other reels with fishing line everywhere but this works great.He doesn't get it tangled its very simple and we stuck it on an equallt cheap rod and he caught a 3 or 4 pound carp second time he used it.He likes it, its a bit cheaply made but you get what you pay for and if he gets into fishing he'll move onto something more substantial.

Got this to go with the Fladen 12-460-2 Cup Trigger Fishing Rod. They were made for each other!Primarily, I got them for use from my kayak, but would also be great for use on river banks with likes of lots of trees where a standard set up would cause issues.Ideal for one handed casting whilst paddling with the other.The trigger system is ingenious!!!

The reels did not release the fishing line when trying to cast out.I bought two reels, one for for my grandson and one for his friend.Neither of them could cast out freely. The operating system to release the line was ineffectiveand rarely worked.I do not blame the seller, but I do blame the manufacturer for not doing a proper final testing of their product and should have discoverd this fault if rigorous final testing had taken place,Sorry to give the reels a bad report, but have had to discard them because of their ineffective operation,

Cheap and cheerfull, Line gets caught inside then wraps round the gears ,sorted it the first time ,second time line was wrapped round gears,under the spool,and shaft ,not working now ,i didn't expect it to be quality reel for the price ,Thought it would have lasted more than 2 Outings .
