Finally BBC Iplayer upstairs again
I used to be able to watch BBC Iplayer, ITV player e.t.c upstairs via wi-fi, however over the last few years with more people using wi-fi around my area the signal became weaker on all available channels to the extent that you can surf the web but trying to watch on demand video is non existent and YouTube is a frustrating stop start experience. Looking around for a solution i came across these and ordered them.In the box are 2 powerline adaptors, 2 Ethernet cables (approx 1m), Software CD, Instructions. The powerline adaptors themselves are about the same sizing of a credit card but shorter in length with a white backing and a light grey front. Beware that the Ethernet cables that come with this are yellow and 1 meter in length each so depending on your setup you may require longer cables. The instructions are easy to follow and the software that is on the CD (which i did not use) is an additional way of pairing de-pairing the devices with the added option individually naming both the plugs and network. The setup was easy I pluged in both adaptors (in the same room) and connected one to the router and the other one a laptop and paired the devices by pressing the pair button for 1 second on the adaptor connected to the router and then on the adaptor connected to the laptop and after flashing for around 30 seconds they were paired. I removed the second adapter and placed it upstairs and connected a 4m Ethernet cable.I am very pleased with the results, web pages load instantly and i can now watch BBC Iplayer, ITV player, YouTube e.t.c instantly without no buffering or stopping dead halfway through the video. Downloading YouTube videos used to take around 7 minutes on Wi Fi for a 50 minute 480p video that is now down to 1 minute max.The adaptors themselves may sometimes need pairing again if the power is switched off more than 24 hours but this is not always the case nor a problem. They do not overheat when left on or when data is being passed through them for long periods of time and go into standby when no data is being passed through them and blink occasionally to let you know they are still switched on and reactivate within seconds when data is detected.Wi Fi is now only switched on when needed in my household!

Excellent for the money
I bought these to replace some old Ebuyer value 85m powerline adapters at my parents' house. I was bringing broadband from an office about 25 metres away into the house. I bought these along with the TP-Link TL-WA901ND Advanced 300Mbps Wireless N Access Point and in use together they are excellent. Here's how I set them up:- Plugged both adapters next to each other in a double power socket and powered them on (both adapters had the top light lit solid) - no need to connect any devices via the supplied ethernet cables yet.- Pressed the pair button on the left-hand adapter for about 2-3 seconds and let go - the top light then started to flash on this adapter- Pressed the pair button on the right-hand adapter for about 2-3 seconds and let go - the top light then started to flash on this adapter- After a couple of seconds, both adapters had the top and middle lights on solid- That's it! It took about 30 secondsI then switched off the power to both and moved them to where they would actually be used and connected to my existing router at one socket and to my new access point at the other socket. They remember the pairing that was set up previously, so no need to run between sockets at opposite ends of your house trying to pair as some reviewers have suggested. I've got no experience of adding another adapter to the existing pairing, but if I ever do I'll update the review accordingly. Make sure you plug these directly into the wall sockets for optimal performance. In use, the performance of these is excellent - it's hard to say if it's down to these or the access point, but my broadband performance into the house has improved and is 100% of what we get over in the office. Put it this way, these far outperform the broadband, so we're future-proofed in that respect. They are also nice and compact and quite an attractive design, so that's an added bonus. Please be aware that they include 2 x 1m ethernet cables to connect to your router, switch, access point etc at each socket.I'll update this review in time to reflect the reliability of them - so far with a good few hours of hammering they've been brilliant.**UPDATE**2yrs on and still going strong. Great buy.

this product is very good and just took seconds to set up
Don't get me wrong, this product is very good and just took seconds to set up. It has improved data transmission greatly and resolved our upstairs WIFI problems. We now have no more connection dropout or jiggery movies on our lounge or bedroom TV's.However, with the TalkTalk setup we have it is as good as it will get with 10/100 Ethernet. TP-Link mention up to 500 mbps data transmission but only has 10/100 Ethernet port allowing 10/100 mbps. This is a bit misleading but it matches the apparent 10/100 mbps on our TalkTalk Router. Never the less it all seems to work okay up to now,To obtain 500 mbps transmission we will need to upgrade to a gigabit router which will allow up to 1000 mbps transmission over our Ethernet which will require an outlay of around £120 for the new TalkTalk Super Router if we go that way(which we doubt),We will be looking out for a gigabit router for around £40 if ever, As mentioned, this product does work with our power lines and has made a connection upstairs (but the power saver function does not operate) via our electric panel with thermal breakers for each circuit. Our router is downstairs in our den so there is some flexibility with installation. You just need to remember that if you need to upgrade your ethernet LAN system you need gigabit ports on all your equipment which means replacing your router and all your ethernet outlets. This product is decently priced with a decent quality. Hope this review helps, might update it later.
