Delivery very good. Great reading and very interesting how his wife managed to help Joe to get back on track. My husband has seen him a few times in concert. I am a concert to J C. Recommend this book.

Excellent autobiography
Very good autobiography. I enjoyed reading it very much and couldn't put the book down. I always have been an admirer of Joe's music and saw him live. Then I watched the TV documentary "Mad dogs and Englishmen" and in that was so much I didn't know about him. So after some research I came across this biography and it had very good reviews, rightly so. There's so much I have learned about the great man, his ups and downs, the people he came across in the music business. I found it really emotional, too, for it has a happy ending with him finding sobriety and happiness and long lasting success again in later life. I also could never understand why he wasn't as successful in his home country as he was in Europe or the USA. It all makes more sense after reading this book. This amazing singer unfortunately left us too early, but I'm sure he's still singing with his amazing voice wherever he is now. The only thing I wasn't happy with about this book is the quality of the actual physical book. I treat my books very carefully and yet it started to come apart at the binding and pages came loose. Otherwise I can recommend this autobiography to any music fan.

A real Sheffield product
If you like Joe, you'll enjoy this book, it details the many problems he suffered on his way to the top. Well written Mr Bean - thank you. Unfortunately it's now out of print - but Joe's still going! Keep it up pal.

Ordinary Joe
Joe had an eventful, interesting life, sadly cut short far too soon. In my eyes his best days were the early ones, Woodstock, Mad Dogs, Delta Lady and so on. Whilst I am very happy he managed to get straight and enjoy huge success I don't think his voice, or his material, had the same power in the "suit wearing" years. This book does a great job of relating the facts in an uncritical, non-judgemental way, but I couldn't help feeling at times I was reading an extended Wikipedia entry. I learned a lot I didn't know (eg the falling out with Leon Russell) and there are some great photos, so definitely worth a read.

An interesting read
I was not sure what to expect of a book about Joe Cocker - he always seemed to me to be much more popular in other countries than his own. Now I understand why, having read the book. He should really have had more success in Britain, he certainly deserved to. The book is well-written and contains some interesting snippets of information about other rock legends from that era. Well worth a read!

Great autobiography about a great singer - unfortunately almost forgotten in his homeland, England. Despite the book was 2nd hand, the status was superb. And I got this delivery in less than 24 hours - great!

This book is Feeling Alright!
Author J.P Bean is the only person to ever write a career retrospective on the life of british rock legend Joe Cocker. Originally published in 1990 under the title of "With A Little Help From My Friends", this updated edition adds four extra chapters, different photo's, and an updated discography. His life is traced from his humble beginnings in sheffield England, and his rise to fame in the late 60's and early 70's, all the way through is dark days of the late 70's, and his return to popularity in the following decades. Simply put, the book reads like an episode of VH-1 Behind the Music. Some of the more interesting topics you will find of interest, is all the turmoil surrounding the "Maddogs And Englishmen" tour of 1970 and of course his long addiction to drugs and alcohol that nearly killed him. Did you know that there was a second verse to "You Are So Beautiful"? Joe was too intoxicated in the recording studio to do the second verse. The producer thought Joe singing the same verse twice was good enough to release. he proved to be right, as the song became a huge hit. After Joe met his wife Pam, his life began to straighten out, both personally and professionally. With help from Michael Lang[Woodstock producer], he slowly built up a once lost career, and through hard work and constant touring he was back playing 15-20 thousand seat venues in the early nineties. Joe cocker has proven that he is indeed a rock n roll survivor, and he continues to record and tour at the age of 60. The same cannot be said about many of his 1960's contemporaries. He still maintains that magic growl and stage presence that is unlike any-other. If you are a Joe Cocker Fan, this book is essential reading.

$2.99 for a reason - avoid the Kindle version
This is a great, essential book; no complaints there. But do not waste even $2.99 on the Kindle version. It is available for sale in book form, and I recommend you buy that. There are FOUR PAGES MISSING. Also, the view on my iPhone was terrible, but on the Macbook Pro was OK. Not sure if that is a setting on this end.
