A Japanese murder mystery
Tsubaki house is morning the loss of old viscount. When the family decides to hold a séance, another death occurs and that triggers an irreversible impact of mysterious murders. The detective is called, but so little truth in the light, makes his work ever more difficult. The goofy setting and the angle of a spirit being involved are what lured me in. The solving part, that followed later felt a bit too stretched to me. On the scale of predictability, the book did have a high score, but connecting the dots felt a little difficult with so much information. I wish a bit more concise since we did not have that many plot twists. The narrators did catch the accent really well, particularly the detective who had a deep course voice. His voice was so distinguishable from the rest that one could easily comprehend when the narrative style changed.Thank you @netgalley @bolindaaudio @pushkin_press for the Audiobook ARC.Genre: #mysterythrillerRating: 3.5/5 ⭐️#TheDevilsFluteMurder

A definite read
The Devil's Flute Murders, part of Seishi Yokomizo's renowned 'Detective Kosuke Kindaichi' series and translated by Jim Rion, is a well-known work by the author. Yokomizo is recognized for his gripping detective, crime, and murder mystery narratives, typically filled with suspense and intricate plot twists. Set in the post-war era in Tokyo, the story revolves around the mourning of a noble Viscount's family following the disappearance and subsequent discovery of Viscount Tsubaki's death. Yokomizo adeptly portrays the South Asian cultural context within these novels, and although this is my first encounter with the author's work, it certainly won't be my last. Each book in the series stands alone, and in this particular one, Detective Kosuke Kindaichi, a brilliant and observant investigator, is enlisted by the family to unravel the mystery. The narrative provides a helpful family chart and individual character details upfront, enhancing engagement and comprehension. The book introduces complexities involving multiple facets of the murder, skillfully elucidated by Kindaichi as the story unfolds and the pieces of the puzzle come together.Until the very conclusion, the identity of the murderer remains elusive, and the story doesn't merely conclude there; additional unforeseen twists are revealed (IYKYK). For those who appreciate Japanese literature and crime stories, especially with a penchant for intricate plots, I strongly recommend delving into Yokomizo's works. Dive into this captivating read asap!

An Honest Review!
The book weaves a tale of family secrets, ghostly visitations, and multiple murders, making it the most complex Kindaichi case yet. Despite the complexity, the narrative maintains a gripping pace, aided by a knowing narrator that guides readers through the intricacies of the investigation. The setting of post-war Japan adds depth and context to the story, exploring the societal impact of the war and the changes it brought to the country. The author skillfully integrates the cultural and traditional elements of Japan into the plot, creating an immersive experience for the readers. While the plot twist may be considered slightly simple by some, the book’s strength lies in its engaged plot, atmospheric world-building, and attention to detail in describing crime scenes and the progress of the investigation. Overall, “The Devil’s Flute Murders” is a riveting thriller that delivers endless suspense and an engaging narrative. Fans of classic Japanese crime and locked-room mysteries will find this book a delightful read. The combination of a complex plot, atmospheric setting, and Kindaichi’s quirky character makes it a must-read for mystery enthusiasts.
