Tropical Sun Gungo Peas - 500g

My father was born in the Caribbean and I spent a lot of time in South America too, so rice and peas have always been a favourite of mine, yet finding the right peas, (which are actually beans), tends to be quite difficult. It's definitely not the same thing using kidney beans that are frequently used as a replacement in this country.I also much prefer the dried variety to the canned version. These are decent value and have a decent shelf life on them too.I bought this brand before for other things before and they were as good then as they are now.These peas need soaking with a bit of salt - preferably overnight, but 6 to 8 hours will do, and they cook up well.The whole family love these in my rice dishes.

Take a lot of soaking

They're gungo peas, good for making samber dishes.

These are very very very dry!!! Soaked them overnight AND pressure cooked them, still had to add more time when pressure cooking.

This is a reap off. How could this tiny thing be over five pounds. This is £1.35 in my local shop here. I just rushed to order without checking size. I taught its the large size. This is £1.35. It's money gone to the drain

I prefer using the tinned variety.Better flavour and texture.
