Q: Is this rg 58 or rg 58u it says both at the top

While either will do for most broadcast purposes, the RG58 has a much higher loss rate and is therefore unsuitable for scanner use where the intended run length exceeds about 3 meters. RG-58U has much less signal loss from antenna to receiver. But you are correct, with anything other than a scanner, the difference is negligible. Thank you for responding.

All of the MPD cables in the various different lengths that I ordered, the cable color is black.

The conflicting answers you get is because you can choose what length and connector you want. Click the arrow on the drop down box .All the choices will appear. Find the connector and length you want, click on it. Then you can add to cart. Be aware some line items describe the connector as" PL259", some as "UHF Male". These are all exactly the same connector. The line items that only list the cable type MILSPEC Mil -C17,all seem to also be PL259s when the full description pops up. I only see one line item that had an N connector. ... N Male on one end and a UHF FEMALE (SO239 )on the other end.
