Heavy Duty
This drop bolt is heavy duty black powder coated steel for use on a gate or door. While installation might appear to be a "no brainer", the included instructions are clear and helpful. The bolt is made to rotate and drop into a pipe installed in the ground or floor (or slide into another post or wall bracket, in a horizontal installation) to prevent opening the gate or door. It is able to be "locked" in a fully open position as well. Self-tapping installation screws are included. What isn't included...and it would be helpful...is a cotter pin that would insert into the hole that appears at the bottom of the rod which will keep the rod from being fully removed from the guide brackets and retainer when being pulled open. Cotter pins are easy to obtain, so that shouldn't be any problem. (And yes, it would make the sliding operation of the bolt just a bit less smooth...just have to be a bit more "intentional" in observation and operation!)The description on the seller's page is straightforward, and it states that there is a 5-year warranty and a 30 day "without reason" return policy, so I hardly think you could go wrong in trying this product if it is something that would fit your needs. I got the 18" rod for use on a driveway gate on my farm. I'm satisfied with the quality of the product I received, and I don't hesitate to recommend it.

Works well and looks good
I ordered this to hold open a door on my double door shed after years of using a bungee cord. It was real easy to attach to the door with the included hardware, then I pushed the door back and dropped the bolt to mark where on the ground to drive my pipe and done. If you're tired of using bungees or pieces of wood to hold open doors I recommend you get one or maybe two of these.
