Asura: The City of Madness

The movie is pretty much based on the real life antics & crimes of Lee Jae Myung who's currently running for South Korea's president. He is rumored to have killed numerous people who have helped him commit a wide range of crimes including embezzlement, theft, murder, etc over the years. Yet the far-left, China, and North Korea's has helped him win the primary for his party and now he has a 50/50 shot at actually winning the election that's coming up. I commend the director for creating a movie about such an important topic.

Two of South Korea's most talented actors play out a classic story of ultimate greed. A power-struggle between an untouchable Mayor and an unforgiving prosecutor that has as its narrator a detective who has spent his life cleaning up the mayor's problems. All has been fine but the detectives wife is the mayor's sister and she is dying of cancer. This situation has finally broken down the detectives loyalty and opened his eyes to his past. Amazing performances, so real. A fight scene is a real fight scene...none of that hollywood crap of "fake punch sounds". When people die you believe it...no soliloquy!

I received the DVD in good time and excellent condition.I really enjoyed this movie with two of my favorite Korean actors.I would recommend this to friends.

I fine myself watching more foreign movies now and they are way better then you would think. This movie has great actions and twist that will keep you on the edge of your set. The guy who played the mayor in this movie did a great job. Just check it out great story.

I would just skip to the end. That is where the action is. This is not a non-stop action flick. I disagree with the "RELENTLESS ENERGY" review headline on the cover.

This movie was a Korean movie with English language dubbing. This ruined the whole movie because too much gets lost in the translation. It would have been better in Korean language with English subtitles. It was a long drawn out movie with some violence at the very end. Movie was abouta corrupt Mayor, corrupt police, corrupt prosecutor and so on. The was a boring movie, but Would probably be a good movie for Koreans in Korean language.

loved this movie! madness is very fitting name, has great chases, great action, really awesome movie!

Not what I would call an easy watch, but very much classic Korean politico/corruption thriller which benefits from repeated viewings. Some complain about the violence, in my opinion its very much in accordance with what you would expect if you watch movies such as City of Violence or The Chaser for example. I think Outrage (Kateshi Kitano) in comparison is a more violent movie.Very gritty, providing an air of inevitability regarding the the outcome of the movie and its main protagonist. The actor playing the Mayor is brilliant, I've seen him in a couple of other Korean movies, and he has this ability to portray the most twisted characters one could imagine. If you are a fan of Korean movies especially the gangster/police/corruption genres, then I would strongly recommend this film. Just wish the UK/Europe provided more exposure to the Korean cinematic output.

So intense!!

Der Film als solches sowie die Story sind einfach nur Müll und komplett verwirrend. Wenig Action, wenig Fights und keine Brutalität. Für mich noch nichtmals 1 Stern wert leider.
