115-8449 Side Deflector Compatible with Toro 2009-2016 22" Recycler Lawn mowers - Fits Model 20330 20330C 20331 20331C 20332 20332C 20333 20334 20334C 20337

I knocked the original deflector cover off of my Toro 22" Recycler mower after knocking into a fence I was mowing around. Aside from breaking some of the plastic, I also lost the spring. Installing this part was a fairly simple, 10-or-so minute change to get me back in business again (with most of that time spent trying to figure out how to keep the spring tight--see below).The part didn't come with instructions, and how to attach the part to the mower might not be obvious. Here's the easy way to do it:1. Insert one end of the spring into the small hole on the front of the plastic cover.2. Line up the cover and spring and place it over the existing metal bracket so that the ends of the bracket go in between the tabs on the cover and the spring. Note: do not remove the bracket from the mower deck.3. Insert the metal pin through the hole in one end of the cover. Insert the pin about half way, making sure that it goes through the holes on the cover, bracket, and spring.4. Use a pair on needle-nose pliers to pull back the opposite end of the spring while tapping the pin the rest of the way through everything with a mallet or hammer. When the pin is through and the pliers are removed, that end of the spring should sit on top of the mower deck and the cover should fit snug over the discharge opening. The cover should now be properly installed and should snap back into place after being lifted and released.

This little bugger is a pain to replace. Maybe with some included instructions would make it easier. Bit overall, nice to find the part at such an amazing price

Perfect fit for my Toro Recycler 22”

extremely difficult to install, no instructions provided. Had to watch some guy's YouTube video to follow his suggestions but it was still trial and error even with that information to get this spring to fit correctly with tension. Took my wife and I about 2 hours to finally figure it out together. This better last because I'm not looking forward to replacing this part again anytime soon.

Product is solid - no issues w/ it.All the installation videos are spotty with this part, so I thought I'd help everyone avoid the 2 hour time suck I just experienced. You can probably do this in 5 minutes.The only challenging part of this is re-installing the spring. Like all the videos show, insert the 1st end of the spring into the small hole on the deflector and put the deflector in the closed position on the lawn mower. After you feed the metal rod through the 1st part of the bracket and the spring, grab the far end of the spring with needle nose pliers and twist it TOWARDS YOU (away from the engine) until the end is pointing back towards the engine. Hold it in place, and w/ your other hand, finish hammering the metal rod thru the spring and bracket. That will lock back half of the spring you just twisted into place. Very simple.Hope this saves everyone 1 hour and 55 minutes of torture!
