Limited purple and black splatter colored vinyl LP pressing. You know it's Danzig the moment you hear him. It's not just that inimitable voice either. It's the thick airy guitars, bluesy swagger, and "come hither" evil that placed him at the forefront of a number of musical revolutions due to his ingenuity, horror and punk formally collided with The Misfits' genesis in the '70s. Anytime you see that iconic Misfits skull, you'll immediately think of his howl fueling punk classics like 82's Walk Among Us or 83's Wolf's Blood/Earth A.D. His vision for Samhain and albums such as Initium and November-Coming-Fire, indelibly impacted the landscape of extreme music, fortifying the crossroads between heavy riffs and occult imagery so prevalent these days. Then, there's his eponymous band - Danzig. 88's self-titled debut would go platinum and yield classics including "Mother," "Twist of Cain," and "She Rides," while overall sales across his catalog exceed 10 million worldwide to date.

Surprised me!
This release was a project I approached with caution. I head the cover of N.I.B. And was appalled. I can now say that is the only dud on the whole record. First to last omitting N.I.B. We're flawless. You can tell this isn't a polished big record company push album, and it reflects the simple rawness beautifully. Buy this album! You will be suprised.

Surprisingly Good
I went into Danzig's new album with low expectations. A covers album is rarely good; hit-and-miss at best. I'm pleasantly surprised. It is better than half his solo output. I am most surprised by how consistent the songs are from one to the next, stylistically. I like the production: a bit raw, but not forced. Most of the songs are rare enough, at least for me, that I don't have to constantly think about how the original was better, etc.Two critiques: 1) While I have much respect for Tommy Victor and feel strongly that he has carried Danzig for the past nearly 10 years, particularly live, he is not a good match for this material. John Christ would have been killer on this, or really any decent bluesy metal guitarist. 2) Danzig sounds like he struggled with some of the vocal pieces. I had this same critique of his last album. Maybe he needs more cardio. Oh, and one more: A Black Sabbath cover? Please. WAY overdone and boring, though he didn't do a bad job and it features a raging Victor solo.I give it a solid 7/10.

The Misfits, Samhain and Danzig rolled into one
Glenn Danzig has always been a favorite of mine. The deep roaring vocals he has produced over the years that have left goosebumps are unforgettable. Skeletons is extremely raw in sound and vocals. It's not a polished as many studio albums are. This is exactly why I love it. Almost as if it were live. The weakest track is NIB not because it is bad, but the original was long and drawn out too(love Ozzy love the song. No hating). If you were ever a fan of The Misfits, Samhain or Danzig (bands in which Glenn Danzig sang in), then you will love this Album. This has a mix and crossover of all three.

A "skeleton" effort, without much meat to it.
It's cool he decided to pay homage to some of his favorite songs/songs that inspired him; but really the effort isn't up to par, the energy isn't there. Maybe it's the choice of songs, but only die-hard Danzig fans will really get much out of this one. (like myself).

A solid effort
I'm a huge Danzig fan. Unfortunately these cover songs didn't really do too much for me. I appreciate them and Danzig belts them out like only he can. However, I was really hoping for a return to the sounds of his 6:66 album. If you like Danzig, pick this up. It's not disappointing, and will tide you over to his next full length band album.

... I listened to this I gotta admit I was like what the hell
The first time I listened to this I gotta admit I was like what the hell? The mix sounded way off to me and I really didn't like it. This was from the frree mp3 download that comes with buying the cd. When the actual cd came in I gave it another try and it sounded completely different. Now I really enjoy most of these songs. A few I could give or take but overall I definitely dig it.

This is a great album. The record is straight, no warps and the colors look great. Sound quality is good without issue.

ignore all these reviews
i do not know why everyone is giving this album a negative review... in my opinion, it is danzig's best work since danzig 4. i love all these covers, and i think that some of them are even better than the originals! the only complaint i have with this album is the mixing and mastering could have been better, other than that... awesome album! some of these songs sound like old-school misfits songs as well! ignore all these reviews here, and get it if you are a metal fan!

the skeleton should've stayed in the closet
I love Danzig but this CD is horrible in my opinion nothing more than did just add it to my collection so I have everything but I have listened to it once and I probably will not listen to it much more than that.

Three Stars
It's not near as good as his older material but still worthy to add to your Danzig collection.

Danzig vocals are meant for Danzig music.
I think Danzig should stick to his own music. Listening to him, trying to do cover of his own personal favourite bands, from back in the days, isn't a pleasant experience. He sounds so boring, listening to him butchering song after song. His vocals are meant for his own music. That is where his voice do the more justice.
