Your coach awaits... and settle down at the back! We've all got treasured memories of fun-filled coach journeys. Perhaps yours is a school trip for an exciting day out, with everyone rushing for the back seats!; or maybe it's a works outing (remember those?) to the bright lights of Blackpool, 'Dreamland' at Margate or the bracing sea air of Skegness; then again, it could even be a holiday, motoring across country or - if you were really lucky - heading off to the Continent as a pioneering, pre-package-holiday tourist. Whatever it was, we all remember how coaches and coach travel once loomed so large in all our lives. There was something so special about them. For some of us it was all about clambering up those polished metal stairs, for others it was the comfy seats - leather if you were lucky but usually squeaky old vinyl! But for all of us it was the thrill of being whisked off to pastures new, the trusty driver ploughing ever onwards, oblivious to the noise, the chatter and the sing-alongs behind him. And the further back in time you go, the more beautiful the coaches of yesteryear become. More than a means of transport, coaches are a much-loved, and increasingly rare, part of our transport heritage.
