Basic German: A Grammar and Workbook (Routledge Grammar Workbooks)

German is rule based. Unlike a lot of other textbooks that promise learning German in a short time, this takes the user systematically through the underlying rules. If you work through the exercises, it is a good way of thoroughly learning German. I much prefer this approach to the other textbooks I have. which do less to explain the underlying reasons for spelling variations, etc. Working through this book is not quick, but it gives an excellent grounding in the language.

Not for those that enjoy pictures and gimmicks but if you are serious about learning German grammar look no further.

This book is so helpful for learning German grammar. I’ve been using a popular app for learning German but wanted more explicit instruction about “the rules” (why “zum” instead of “zur”, for example). This book is user-friendly and includes exercises for practice with each concept introduced. Highly recommend it
