Really pleased with this book because the designs are very versatile and there is so much information about sizing. I have a computer programme for adult designs and this book complements it because the measurements for children's clothes are quite different from the adult ones. Only criticism is that the cover (hardback) is upside down! However that doesn't affect the content.

Wonderful book

A fantastic addition to any sewing room library

I've only flipped through this book since getting it - the content looks incredibly useful and thorough (despite being fairly old now), but there's a manufacturing fault which means that the cover is on back-to-front and upside-down, making it a bit irritating to keep opening the book and having to flip it. I don't care enough to return it since everything inside the cover seems fine, but I wrote this review to warn others that this is a possibility in case it would bother you. I ordered through Amazon Prime so it's not some knock-off version, just a fault in the manufacturing I suppose.

Winifred Aldrich's pattern cutting books are a pattern cutters bible. Follow her instructions step by step and you have basic blocks from which to create any design, in flat pattern cutting. I treasure my books, and refer to them for all my blocks. This book is updated to reflect modern day children's figures, although I do suspect, obesity hasn't been taken into account, quite on the scale that has appeared in the UK. A fabulous resourceful book.

I ordered this book to enable me to make my own patterns. I have been sewing for many years and have always adapted my own patterns but have never been able to make my own properly. This book is brilliant, I really love it. I would not recommend it however for people who have no knowledge of the basics of sewing as they could find it difficult to put into practice. I did read the reviews on this book before buying which helped me with my decision.

Easy to put to practical use.

This book has all of the measurements and info was I after to create and adapt blocks for a small collection of children's clothing. I read a few of the reviews before purchasing and would reiterate that it is not a pattern book, and so is probably not suitable for those with no pattern cutting experience -but if you want to draw up your own designs it has pretty much all the info you could want from birth to 14 years old. Expensive but invaluable.
